Royally Chosen Christmas (Royal Sons MC #7) - Elle Boon Page 0,63
you set up an appointment with this Louis?”
“No, I told him I was only a minor shareholder, and that he needed to contact someone on the board. He was most insistent.”
There was fear in her voice now, fear he hated to hear. “Where are you now?” If she was at home, she should be safe with the security he’d installed. Nobody but residents could get into the gated community unless they were pre-authorized with a code or the security guard called whoever they were visiting to verify they were legit. However, he wasn’t willing to risk his mother’s life on should-be scenarios.
“I’m home, son. It’s just after seven in the morning for crying out loud,” she said with exasperation.
“Call the guard at the gates and tell them you are not expecting visitors and to call you and me if anyone other than a regular visitor shows up for anyone. I’m on my way to you now.” He set Talena on the floor, his mind working out who he’d call for backup. His MC brothers were at least a half an hour away. Cosmo would be at the Royal MC compound with his ole lady, but if he’d left a couple of his security guys in the city, they’d be his best bet.
“I need you to listen to me. Make sure the house is locked up and secure. Set the alarm and don’t answer any calls except from me. That man might be who he said he was, or he could be a very dangerous adversary. Are there provisions in the Safe Room still?” He’d been extremely glad his father had the foresight to build not just a room, but a suite that would lock down and keep whoever was inside safe during just about any kind of an emergency whether it be fire, tornado, which the West Coast wasn’t known for, and even a bomb should someone go that far.
“Scott, you’re starting to scare me. I know I said the man gave me the creeps, but I don’t think that’s necessary. Honestly I’ll just get dressed and head to—”
“Mother, do what I said and don’t argue with me, please.” He hated to cut her off harshly, yet he needed her to understand the situation was serious.
“Please just do as he says. If this is the man I think, he’s batshit crazy and will hurt you to get at me.”
Talena reached out, putting her hand on his chest, the motion calming him marginally.
“Scott, tell me what is going on?” His mother asked in an even tone.
He pulled Talena into his arms, staring down at the phone, then at the ceiling. “Nothing I can’t handle if I know you and T are safe.”
“Fine, you two, I’ll double check the house is locked up, but I’ll expect answers when you get here. You just keep my baby girl safe, or else. Should I send Wilma home?” she asked, gasping like the question just hit her.
Fuck he forgot about the housekeeper. “Has she already arrived?”
“She’s just starting, but the house isn’t dirty, so she can leave and come back in a week. It’s not as if the dust will overwhelm me.” His mother sounded a little put out, but he could hear her walking, presumably to find Wilma.
“I don’t think I’ve actually seen any dust,” he said, going quiet as he heard Wilma’s voice.
His mother and the other woman had a low conversation while he imagined Tara Haven held the cell to her chest, trying to have a little privacy. He could’ve easily pulled up one of the security cameras and seen for himself what was going on. He didn’t though, since he wasn’t sure how Talena would react. In all honesty, he didn’t feel the need to look, never had since Gary’s death, but it was a measure he’d implemented as part of their home security.
“Alright, she’s leaving, albeit she was a little startled since she’s been coming once a week for the last five years, and I’ve never cancelled. I guess I’m a creature of habit.” She sighed, sounding a little lonely.
“Are you okay?” He pulled Talena into his arms, staring down at her then the cell, wishing he was there with his mom so he could protect them both.
“Ignore me, son. You just take care of Talena and figure out what’s going on with our mystery caller. I’m going to make sure Wilma makes it through the gate without incident. Call me when you arrive. I’ll be in the safe room,”
