“That’s right. So, don’t make us hurt you, Syd. Because we will. In fact, I’ll hurt your scrawny ass bad.” Ross’s voice hitched as he wrapped his beefy arms around Syd and clapped him on the back.
As tears glistened in Syd’s eyes and his chin quivered, Ozzy, Darren, and Burk moved in, lending their support and melding together in a big, brotherly communal hug. Mia swiped the tears from her cheeks, then tugged me off the couch. Together with the other women, we joined our men, fusing our family in pure, unadulterated love.
“First of all, you are not quitting, Syd,” Quinn announced, drawing everyone’s attention and prompting an end to our hug.
“I know, but…” Syd wiped his eyes and sniffed.
A sly smile tugged a corner of Quinn’s mouth. “Second, I have a solution guaranteed to keep the press off your back. Wanna hear it?”
“Yes.” Syd pulled me into his arms and hugged me against his chest.
“You two were juveniles when all that shit went down, right?”
We nodded in tandem.
“Juvenile records are sealed by the courts. Of course, that doesn’t mean they’ll remain sealed if someone wants to fork over a large amount of cash. Nothing’s sacred when the press is involved.”
My heart felt like a yo-yo. One second I was elated, the next deflated.
“I’m sure Reed Landes would be happy to make a few phone calls. If anyone can get your records dipped in cement and sleeping with the fishes, it’s him.”
I exhaled a massive sigh of relief as Syd squeezed me even tighter and pressed a long kiss to the top of my head.
Cheers went up all around the room and I suddenly realized I wasn’t going home to mourn the loss of Syd again. I was joining legendary rock group Licks of Leather on the road.
Happiness exploded through every cell in my body as I grinned up at him. “Guess this means I’m going to be your personal groupie now?”
“No. You’re my love, my life, and very soon, just like we’d planned years ago, you’re going to be my wife.”
Wife.
My heart nearly burst out of my chest.
Slanting his mouth over mine, Syd captured my lips in a kiss overflowing with passion and promise.
“Christ, you two. Get a room.” Darren chuckled.
“Excellent idea.” Syd grinned, then swept me off the floor and into his arms. I clung to his wide shoulders and laid my head on his chest. “Good night, family, and thank you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
Claiming my lips with another savage kiss, Syd carried me up the stairs, down the hall, and into our room.
“Christ, I can’t wait to get inside you, angel,” he murmured against my neck as he trailed sizzling kisses over my flesh. “Slide deep inside your tight, hot body and rock your world.”
“You’ve always been deep inside me, Syd…deep inside my heart and soul, quaking and rocking my foundation.”
A slow, sexy smile speared his lips as he arched a brow. “Is that so?”
I sent him a coy nod.
“Well, you’d better hang on then, angel, because I’m going to rock you deeper…so much deeper.”
