grin at the skimpy olive-green dress she’s wearing barely covering her rear.

“You have the best legs I’ve ever seen on a chick.” I reach out and give her shapely thigh a pat. “If we weren’t shopping, then I’d suggest you christen this car and sit on my lap.”

As she pushes long dark strands of hair away from her eyes, Star giggles. “It won’t be comfortable since you barely have legroom now.”

“Forget about me. I like nothing more than to watch your beautiful face as I pleasure you. I want you to touch everything I own.”

She rubs a hand over the material covering my cock. “For the record, in your bedroom, we’ve ticked off the entire list.”

A chuckle lightly. “The car it is. It’s my goal before the end of the day.”

“So where are we going?” she asks as I veer out onto the street.

“The city mall. I have to buy Christmas presents for my family.” I turn momentarily to gauge her reaction.

Her pale gold eyes round. “You want my opinion?”

“You probably know me better than anyone else here, and I’m not asking Braxton.” I glance at her again and love that she has a smile on her pretty face. “My sister-in-law is around your size, although she’s trying to get pregnant. I have no clue what to get her.”

“I got you covered,” she says and grabs my phone to switch up my Spotify playlist. I want to groan when her choice of acoustic songs plays—soft instrumental tunes and beautiful voices. I didn’t take this to be her style, only she keeps on surprising me.

We stop at the traffic lights, and I watch her adjust the temperature on the cooling, and then up the volume to a song she likes. I don’t allow chicks to get cosy and treat my stuff as theirs, but there’s something about Star that intrigues me. Maybe it’s the risk factor of us being together is living dangerously. Yet watching her feel at home when she’s in my room, and in my car, feels somehow right.

The problem is both of us accept it’s fun while it lasts.

We are not serious.

We will not be a thing because I don’t do relationships.

“I’m glad I’ll have a place after Christmas,” I say when Star orgasms with the enthusiasm I love about her. “You’re probably scaring the young lads.”

She smiles with her eyes closed, and I assume too out of breath to respond. When her breathing slows, she pushes up onto her elbow and turns on her side. “Are you going to buy that house?”

I roll, so I’m facing her. “Yeah, I am. I like New Farm, it has a good vibe. Have you thought about buying your own place?”

She runs a finger in a line from my neck to my navel. “We have money, only it’s tied up. Viper controls everything.”

“The president?”

She nods. “He provides the house we live in, and we get basically everything we want.”

“Yet you don’t wear jewellery or have any expensive shit.”

Her eyes meet mine in a way that I’ve missed something. “No. I don’t want what they give. I had a diamond ring and gave it back. Taking stuff is…” she flops onto her back, “… being bought. I don’t want to owe them anything.”

It sounds like she has a problem with the club. It surprises me because I assumed she was happy. She acts carefree, and yet in one sentence, I sense the torment in her words. “Do you want to live somewhere else?”

She shrugs. “I have freedom but… I don’t want to sound ungrateful. They are my family. My mum,” she swallows hard then sighs. “I never told you she died of an overdose when I was a child, and the guys rallied around to give me everything I needed. As you can imagine, if you incur a debt, then you’re indebted for life. I try not to think about it.” Star looks at me, and it’s one where she wants to open up. I keep my mouth shut and give her a nod. “One of them hit me.”

My fists clench. There’s no way in hell I’d allow another man to treat her badly.

“My father and some of the other men kicked his arse in a way he’ll remember. In punishment, Viper sent him to Sydney. I’m okay as long as he doesn’t come back here.”

“Would he dare?” I growl it because I want to slam the arsehole myself.

She nods, and in the moment, there’s fear in her eyes. “One day because
