“I see you survived the wedding talk.”

“We’ve just finished, actually.” She grins.

“Wow! That was a long day.” Looking down at my watch, it’s late in the afternoon, and she’s been at this for hours.

“Yes. But I had fun. Your mother is wonderful.”

Okay, glowing praises about my mother. Have I walked into the Twilight Zone? My mother hasn’t liked any of the girls I’ve dated before, and honestly, I’m surprised she and Lila have gotten along so well. I mean, I hoped they would, and I felt terrible this morning. It was as if I were sending her off to the wolves, but she’s come back glowing, and that makes me happy.

“You’ve let my mother takeover, haven’t you?”

Lila nods her head. “I gave a few suggestions, but I don’t really care what color the invitations are.” She giggles, and I’ve fallen for her a little bit more.

“I think maybe it’s good for all three of us. Greyson has time where he can think about whether or not this is the life he wants.” She has my attention now. “Because you and I are offering him a life of being our dirty little secret.”

It’s the same fear I’ve had since meeting Lila.

“I won’t be happy, but I’ll let him go if this isn’t what he wants.” Just the thought of him being with someone else, building a life with them, makes my heartache. Still, it’s also incredibly hypocritical because he has to sit on the sidelines and watch me build a life with Lila.

Lila’s hand reaches out and cups my face. “I know you would.” She gives me a sad smile. “We both would. Hopefully, he comes back to us.” I nod.

I lift her skirt, exposing her to me. “You naughty little thing, Lila. No underwear again.”

She bites her lips and smiles. “I find myself not wanting to in case…” My hand slides up her thighs, my fingers find her folds and open them wider to me. She lets out a moan at my touch.

“In case of what, beautiful?” I question.
