yet. I can’t say I was looking forward to having to kick the shit out of any Raven Soul fucker that tried to touch her,” Priest admits.
“With her room being soundproofed, it’s the best place for her,” Bates reluctantly agrees. He likes having Reign in his lap, acting as a buffer.
I stop talking when I see a couple of hangarounds approach.
“Hey guys, are you partying alone tonight?” they ask, giggling together like a pair of drunk sorority girls. Actually, that might not be far off the mark.
“We’ll be here,” Priest answers before taking a swig of his beer, “but if you’re looking for dick, you’ll need to find another group of brothers,” he tells them, making their faces fall.
“But we wanna taste one of the presidents,” the blonde one pouts.
“Or all of you,” the dark-haired girl says with a wink.
“Not interested,” I bark, turning my back on them, effectively shutting them out.
When a small hand touches my back, I spin, ready to grab her and kick her out, but a voice stops me.
“You know, if their old lady sees you touching them when you’ve already been told no, she’ll rip the ratty-ass extensions out of your head before strangling you with them,” Lena says with a smirk; her old men, Widow and Chains, behind her nod in agreement.
“Fine.” The dark-haired one rolls her eyes before grabbing her friend. “Let’s go, Trixi.”
I watch them stomp off, tottering over the uneven ground in their high heels, before I aim an amused smile at Lena. “Thanks, darlin’,” I tell her with a wink.
She shakes her head and smiles. “It’s easier than having to clean up the bloodshed if Reign got to them before me.”
Well, I can’t argue with that, can I?
Chapter Thirty-Four
Reign
A ringing phone breaks me out of my sleep, much to my disgust. I feel like I’ve only just rolled into bed. Turning to see the clock, the red numbers blink angrily, letting me know it’s 1:00 am and I’m alone.
Reaching over blindly, I bash my wrist on the bedside table, making me curse before I eventually find the blasted phone. It isn’t until I stare at the screen and recognize the number that a wave of dread washes over me.
No way would Tate call me at 1:00 a.m. for a chat.
Wide awake now, I sit up and tap the answer button. “Tate?”
“Raindrop.” His voice is filled with sadness.
“Tell me,” I whisper. Crawling out of bed, I flick on the light as I tear through the drawers one-handed looking for something to wear.
“Travis was shot tonight. He’s in surgery right now, but it’s not looking good, Reign.”
Travis was shot.
Travis was shot.
The words echo in my head. “No, please, not that. Please, Tate, tell me this is a fucked-up joke, please,” I beg, but it’s not and I know it. Tate would never joke about something like this.
“I’m sorry, Raindrop, so goddamn sorry.”
“I’m on my way,” I tell him, swiping angrily at my tears.
“No, it’s too dangerous, Reign,” he yells.
“Fuck that and fuck you too for thinking I would stay away when he needs me. I’ll call when I’m on my way.” I hang up before he can speak. He won’t change my mind, not a fucking chance.
I shove my legs into the first pair of jeans I find and leave Saint’s T-shirt on, not even bothering with a bra. Flip flops beside the bed will do for footwear, everything else I can buy when I get there.
Snagging my phone, wallet, and keys, I shove them in my pockets before heading down the stairs in a haze. The party I bailed on earlier thanks to a headache from hell, which hasn’t completely gone, is still in full force. Swarms of people are drinking and fucking the night away, and for some reason, it makes me feel dirty.
I’ve been here falling for three men like I’m on vacation and now one of my brothers is dying. I used to see Trav daily, but I haven’t laid eyes on him since I ran, and now, I might not even make it back in time to say goodbye before he’s gone.
I scan the room looking for my guys, but it’s so crowded I can’t see anything. The air is thick with smoke, because nobody in the MC gives a fuck about smoking indoors, and right now it’s making everything even harder to see.
I move toward the far corner of the room where the guys tend to gravitate and spot Bates and Saint on one of the
