“Really?” I push.
“Don’t look at me like that. I might like a variety of pussy as much as the next guy, but even I can see the merit of having an old lady at our beck and call,” he admits, making me laugh.

“We’re not taking a whore for an old lady.” I scowl.

I shake my head at him. “None of this really matters if Saint isn’t on board anyway, and after doing an almost six-year stint inside, the last thing he’s going to want to do is settle down.”
“Maybe,” Bates concedes, “but give him a chance to work shit out of his system and he might surprise you. He never was a player in the hit it and quit it game. Ironic, really, considering who his dad was. From what I can remember, he had a steady girl that he was planning on bringing round in hopes you’d like her, before he got sent down,” he explains, surprising the shit out of me.
“Really? How the fuck did I not know that?”
Bates just shrugs. “Dunno. It didn’t matter in the end. Saint got sent down and the girl bailed.”

“I’m not saying he’s still the same way. Five years is a long time to go without pussy and prison changes a man. We’ll just have to play it by ear.”

I look up and see Kitty batting her lashes at me. It takes more effort than I care to admit to stop myself from rolling my eyes at her. “I’m good, Kitty,” I brush her off when she places her hand on my shoulder.
“Come on, Priest, I’ll make you feel so good, you and Bates both. I swear,” she vows, sinking to her knees in front of me. She pushes my legs apart before crawling between them, reaching for my zipper as I drain the last of my beer.
“It seems, Bates, someone needs a reminder about who is in charge around here.”
“Yes, I’ve been bad, I should be punished,” she moans.
“I’m glad you agree. Get your stuff and get gone.”
She pauses for a moment, looking unsure. “What?”
“Did I fucking stutter?” I question, making Bates snort.
“But, I thought—”
I cut her off, already done with this conversation. “You thought you could change my mind. You aren’t the first and won’t be the last. But hear me, Kitty, when I tell you I’m not interested, it means I’m not interested. Now fuck off before I ban you from the clubhouse altogether.”
She climbs awkwardly to her feet and hurries away to the sound of Bates’s laughter.
“You are such a dick,” he tells me.
“Yeah, tell me something I don’t know.”

“Are you sure you’re okay?” Owen asks. He came over tonight in place of Travis, who got called in to work a homicide case.
I turn to face him, not realizing I had zoned out. “Yeah, sorry. Just not hungry, I guess.” I shrug, pushing the pasta around my plate.
“Trav said you were spooked but it seems more than that. Talk to me, Raindrop. What’s going on?”
I slide my plate of half-eaten food aside and decide to just go for it. “Garrett wants me to go out with him.”
