Reese (Pack of Misfits #2) - Raven Kennedy Page 0,61
the shower.
I scrub myself from head to toe, paying particular attention to my lady grove, which by the way, is sore. Not that I expected anything less after the pounding she took. I wash my hair multiple times. I shave all over. Then I shave again, just in case. My rat may like being covered in hair, but I do not.
Once I’m clean and smooth and standing under the hot spray of the water, I realize how sore my entire body is. I’m tense, my muscles locked up tighter than a bank vault, but some of that stiffness slowly starts to ease away the longer I stand under the hot spray.
So much has changed so quickly.
I had come to accept the fact that I was going to live out the rest of my days as my animal. I knew that Rick Dick would continue being a dick and that one day, Sid would come back and end me.
But now I’m...here. Human. And I’m in a totally different pack of shifters that don’t seem to care that I’m nothing but a rat. If I’d tried to join any other shifter pack, I would’ve been laughed out of the compound. Not only being a prey, but a rat? Yeah, I definitely wouldn’t have been welcomed with open arms.
But then there’s the whole Sid situation to deal with. I know in my gut that he knows. There’s no doubt that he didn’t feel our connection sever. The question is, what is he going to do about it? I’m not sure if he can track me down or not, but I’ll be waiting on pins and needles until something happens.
And Luca...I don’t even know how to work out what happened with Luca. I don’t know how to process it or what he’s thinking. Hell, I don’t even know what I’m thinking.
Sighing, I turn off the water and get out, drying off with a clean towel that I nab from the cabinet. Shit, that reminds me. I need to go back to the sanctuary and get Luca’s towel and clean up my mess before anyone finds it. If that room ends up on the Wall of Fame, I might just die.
I find a package of plain cotton panties, a sports bra, sweatpants, and a bright yellow t-shirt that says What The Duck on it. After sifting through the rest of the t-shirts, I see that every single one of them is duck themed. I shake my head with amusement and pull on the clothes. I comb my hair and brush my teeth, and by the time I step back out of the bathroom, I feel like a new female.
As I’m making my way down the catwalk, one of the enforcers heads me off. “Hey, Reese. I’m Stinger.”
“Nice to meet you.”
“Alpha Hugo wants to know if you can come talk to him and the other enforcers.”
“Okay, sure. When?”
“Now, if that’s okay?”
I blow out a breath. “Alright. I guess it’s better if I just get it over with.”
“I’ll walk you.”
I toss my bag in my room and then follow him downstairs and outside.
“Just give us the facts of everything you can remember,” Stinger tells me as we walk toward his black Expedition and get in. “Whatever you can tell us will help. We’ve already been working on a few leads.”
“You have?” I ask, surprised.
“Yep. We’ve been tracking down your old alpha based on where you said he was last located and what kind of animal shifter he is. We found the apartments you used to live in, but the pack is gone. They moved on from there about three years ago.”
I slump in my seat. “Oh.” Well, that makes things more difficult. I don’t like not knowing where Sid is. It makes me even more nervous.
“Don’t worry. We’ll find Sid and this Rick prick.”
I choke out a laugh.
“What’s funny?” he asks as he turns the car down the road. As we start driving toward the gate, I see none other than Luca walking toward us, heading for the warehouses. By the time I register that it’s him and start to slide down in my seat, he’s already seen us. My laugh cuts off as we pass him. Stinger gives him a wave, but Luca just stares at us, and he looks pissed for some reason.
I quickly divert my eyes as Stinger drives past him, and I do not watch him in the side mirror. Nope. I definitely don’t see that he’s turned around to watch us drive
