looked over at my mom and asked, “How was that?”

My mom laughed and nodded, and the women started talking among each other as Dad and I walked out onto the deck so I could see my friends, my eyes scanning the yard for Eliza. She was talking to Hank, Jace, and Harley as they sat together on some lawn chairs out in the grass, and I made my way toward her as I greeted my friends. I’d lost my Dad to Grunt, Tucker, and Daughtry by the time I got down close to Eliza.

“Well, you’re out of the pokey,” Hank teased as he stuck his hand out to shake mine. “Welcome back to the world.”

“Thanks!” I shook his hand and Eliza stood up from her chair and motioned me toward it. I sat down and she perched on my leg, continuing her conversation with Jace and Harley. “Thank you for doing this, Hank. It means a lot to me, and it’s so good to see everyone again.”

“I’ve been held away from my friends and family before, and I know how therapeutic it is to have everyone around. It’s the least I can do to pay you back for the smile you keep on Eliza’s face.”

“I was shocked to see my parents,” I admitted. “They said you and Grunt had something to do with that. Thank you. They told me they were coming in next week.”

“Your dad told Grunt that they just couldn’t stay away any longer. I don’t blame ‘em. They’re nice people. Your mom’s going to teach me how to cook.”

“You’re already one hell of a chef!”

“Yeah, but she’s going to teach me to cook some good authentic Vietnamese food. I told her I’d help her with her hollandaise sauce. She said she just can’t seem to get it right, but she loves it. She’s also going to teach me to curse in her language. I’m very happy about that.”

“That’s awesome.” I laughed.

“We’re coming to your house for a new year party, I guess. She was explaining it to me when you guys pulled up.”

“That’s good. I’m going to take Eliza in and let her meet my parents.”

“You are?” Eliza snapped her head around and looked at me. “Today?”

“Well, yeah.” I said as I poked her in the ribs. “Did you think I wouldn’t?”

“I haven’t had time to prepare. I don’t have a gift. I’m not ready.”

“You’re the gift, honey. Believe me, you’re the gift.”

17.

“Why do people keep saying that?”

RASON

ELIZA

“I’m so excited to be home, and I’m so glad you’re with me!” I bounded out of the car as soon as I put it in park and rushed around the hood to get Rason. I pulled him by the hand toward the door that led into my laundry room, slapping the garage door button to close it on my way by. “I have something to show you.”

“Is it the bed? A big bed we’ll both fit in?” Rason asked as he pulled me back into his arms. He leaned down and kissed me passionately, and I completely forgot about what I wanted to show him.

I whispered. “Take me to my bed.”

Rason picked me up in his arms and walked straight to my bedroom. He set me down on the ground and my mouth was on his as we both frantically kicked off our shoes and yanked our clothes off.

We were all over each other, hands and mouths exploring as we whispered to each other, and then I was on my back, and he was inside me.

“Damn,” Rason breathed the word out as he stilled. “You feel so good.”

He pulled back and then pushed even further inside me, slowly letting me stretch to fit his body into mine. I wrapped my legs around his waist and tilted my hips up for more, and he obliged, slamming into me with his next thrust.

We moved like that until we were both frantic, our moans and whispers stopped only when our mouths explored whatever skin we could reach. I felt my orgasm take hold and I let it, holding Rason to me as I clenched around him with a scream. He moved steadily and let me ride out my orgasm, enhancing it with his movements before he pulled out of my body and nudged my hip to get me to turn over.

I knew just what he wanted and pushed my legs up so he could enter me from behind. His hands roamed all over my ass cheeks, squeezing them in his hands as
