brother apparently knew everyone in town, I guessed he had the guy’s phone number.
This big brother thing was really coming in handy.

“Note to self, don’t play poker with Eliza.”

RASON
“Oh, Rason!” Jace called from the living room. “Come out, come out, wherever you are!”
“I’m in my room,” I yelled back then muttered to myself, “It’s not my room. It’s some kid’s room that’s decorated with kid stuff.”
“Come out and see me. I’ve got a surprise for you.”
“What are you doing here anyway? I thought you were going to your office for a while.” I got up out of the twin-sized bed and walked to the bedroom door. I’d showered earlier and hadn’t even had the energy to get dressed when I was done. I walked down the hall wearing a pair of basketball shorts Eliza had sent over for me and nothing else.
I'd never been so cooped up and bored in my life. I could just feel the depression of being stuck in this house for two weeks pressing me down further and further until I could barely make myself shower every day. The only bright spots were my conversations with Eliza, but even that hadn’t been able to cheer me up after Detective Lake called yesterday to tell me about Robin’s latest stop on the crazy train.
My head was down when I walked into the living room, but I looked up when Jace said, “Well, someone’s dressed for company.”
“Hi, Rason.” Eliza was standing next to Jace, a bright smile on her face. “Surprise!”
“What are you doing here?” I rushed toward her and picked her up in my arms, my mouth on hers in a long kiss. I heard the door that led out to the garage click shut, and I pulled away from her. Jace was gone. “God, it’s so good to see you!”
“You sounded so down that I just had to do something,” Eliza whispered close to my ear.
“You’re just what I needed.” I kissed her again and then put my face in her neck as I held her close to me. I was still holding her off the ground, so I walked us over toward the kitchen table and sat her down on the edge of it. I sat down in a kitchen chair between her splayed knees and just stared at her. “It’s so good to see you, Eliza.”
Eliza’s hands were resting on my shoulders, and she moved one up to gently stroke my cheek.
“I’ve missed you.”
“I’ve missed you too. How did you plan this? When did you plan this?”
“After we talked last night, I knew I had to do something. Hank called Jace, and they worked it out. We met at Maria’s restaurant, and they took me down this long hall at the back. When we came out, we were at the other end by a gym. Jace was there in his truck and I just hopped in and he brought me here. When we got close to the house, I got down on the floorboard so no one would see he was dropping someone off.”
“That door is right below Harley’s apartment. How long can you stay?”
“Well, I guess for the weekend. Hank thinks it will be okay for a little while, but he’s more worried about this crazy guy that’s looking for Reba rather than Robin now. He thinks that if someone is following her, they’ll know she’s not home, so they’ll either try to break in and kill me in a horrible, bloody manner as a side casualty or they’ll just leave us alone because their target isn’t here.”
“Oh, Eliza.” I tilted forward and she leaned down just a bit to put her forehead against mine. “It’s so good to see you.”
“Jace said he’d be gone for the next 10 hours guaranteed,” Eliza whispered. “I think we should make good use of that time, don’t you?”
I pulled her off the table so she was straddling my lap, and my mouth was on hers in a second. She was feeling the same urgency I was, and she yanked her mouth away from mine and stood up. Her jeans and panties were on the floor by her sandals in another few seconds and she straddled me again. I had just enough time to pull my shorts down before she settled in and slowly lowered herself down with me inside her.
She sat still for a second, letting her body adjust to mine as we looked into each other’s eyes. With a grin she started to move up
