reason!

“Now it’s my time to kill you, bitch!” she screamed at me as she tackled me to the ground. Then the blade came from nowhere, one that was just about to come hurtling down into my own heart, a death by the same cause. But suddenly she was pushed off me by a force and when I saw where it came from, I knew then that I was looking at the face of Kala not Dalene.

She had saved me!

She nodded to the Eye that was still in between Lucius and me, left there now that Matthias believed that nothing could stand in his way.

“The Eye, Amelia… quickly both of you, use it now!” she cried desperately, but then the moment that Matthias saw her aiding me, he backhanded her, making her fall backwards with a sickening thud. Then, before he could reach out to stop me, I scrambled to my feet and ran towards him, leaping at the last moment. Then I pushed the other side of the Eye into Lucius’ outstretched hand. One that looked as if he had died trying to reach for me, and the pain I felt in knowing that cut me to the core!

But it was like Kala said, I had to try!

So, I pushed it the last inch that was needed to touch his fingertips, which was when the connection was finally made. I sucked in a startled breath, as I knew now that I had the power to gain back the souls. Souls that had travelled through me, and the essence was one that still lingered. I was the anchor to drag them back. Which was precisely what I did. And just as Matthias was about to reach me, he fell suddenly to his knees as I tore every soul from him. I closed my eyes and forced all those souls back into the Eye, and pushed them between myself and Lucius.

Then I open my eyes and watched and prayed for him to open his own, for just even one flicker of his fingertips would be enough. Anything to acknowledge the power and know he had accepted it. I didn't know where he was in the world right then, in which realm, be it Heaven or Hell or some other afterlife, but wherever he was, I suddenly screamed his name,

“LUCIUS!” Then I closed my eyes and forced the power of the Eye to do my bidding. I cradled it closer to me and placed his palm on the other side, so he was touching it even more. Then I let go of all my tears of love and loss, allowing them to fall and drip onto the very essence of Janus. This was when I finally felt its power and this time, it wasn't one of rage like the Eye had been made from.

It was a power that could defeat the roots of rage and cleanse them of all the hatred that Matthias had powered into them.

And in this, it was also what had the power to make a vampire’s heart beat again.

Suddenly Lucius sucked in a deep breath, and then he took in another, before finally his eyes opened… and we stared at each other over the Eye that we both held. At first, he looked confused, but then as if it all started to come back to him, he looked down at the spear still in his chest and suddenly ripped it from himself. He then healed instantly as if the Eye had the power to do this.

“Gods, Lucius!” I threw myself into his arms, and he cradled me to him, and it would have been the most perfect moment by being reunited, that was until Kala screamed,

“THE KEYSTONE!” This was when the whole mountain started to shake, and I looked back to see that we had been too late. Matthias had plunged his hand into the Keystone and was now absorbing all that the Titans had left to give him. He was becoming a God, one I knew no one would have the strength to fight! Then I looked up to Lucifer and found him being held and about to be crushed by Abaddon, because it no longer mattered that all of the souls were now transferred back into Lucius. There was only one thing that would manage to calm him down, and that was his Pip.

“What are we going to do?” I questioned as Lucius dragged himself into a sitting position, obviously still affected by what had happened physically.

“Only
