I shake Mr Waters’ hand one last time.
“I’m not sure I’ll ever get used to shaking the President’s hand,” he says before his voice quietens a little. “You look after my girl, Mr President.”

He then turns and hugs Veronica close, whispering something in her ear. She nods.

After what seems like ten minutes, they let each other go.
“Let’s go,” she says to me, and I take her hand. “Are you sure it’s okay for us to take… that?”

“Being the President has certain advantages,” I say. “Such as my own plane to take me wherever I need.”
We board, giving one final wave at the top of the stairs. I can’t help it, it’s practically a tradition when boarding Airforce One.
Once we’re inside, I lead Veronica back. “It’ll take a while for them to do their last checks and fire up the engines, so we have a bit of time.”

“Just that the next seven hours or so will be the most privacy we get for some time,” I say with a shrug.

“I said, it is my plane,” I reply. “Which means I can do whatever I damn well please.”
I hear a soft gasp.
The roar of the engines starts up. It won’t be long now until we leave.
“Sit down and put your seatbelt on,” I say taking my seat. “I expect it will be at least half an hour before we’re ready for take-off.”
She pauses. “And what are we going to do for half an hour?”
