upstairs, cleaning up the mess from the remodel. Candace had finally filled me in on her lunch with Will. They seemed to be hitting it off rather well.
The bell on the entrance door rang, and I peeked over the railing to see Hudson walk in. My mood instantly lifted at the sight of him. I dusted off my jeans and quickly made my way down the old antique steps that creaked when you used them.
“Hey, how’s your day been?” Hudson asked the moment he caught sight of me.
“It’s been good, but better now that I’ve seen you.”
Candace let out a fake gagging sound, but only loud enough for me and Hudson to hear her. We both ignored her. “Did your folks make it in okay?” I asked.
He nodded. “They did. I’m sorry we couldn’t swing by after lunch.”
“No worries. I wish I could have joined you guys, but I’m excited for this evening. What time is it? I thought you weren’t picking me up until six?”
Hudson’s gaze made my entire body feel heated.
“Um, Candace, I’m going to go ahead and take off a bit early, if that’s okay?” I said over my shoulder.
Candace gave me a knowing look. “Don’t worry about this place—I’ve got it covered until the girls come in. Enjoy your evening and day off tomorrow.”
I smiled as Hudson took my hand, and we headed back to my office. When I reached for my phone, I heard the door click behind me. I turned and saw the desire in his eyes, and I swallowed hard.
“I want to kiss you,” he said.
I let a girlish giggle slip free. “I’m totally okay with that.”
Before I could utter another word, Hudson had my face cradled in his hands, his mouth on mine, and I was instantly lost to him. The feel of our tongues tangling left me dizzy, and I clung to him for support when my legs felt like they might give out.
With a low voice, Hudson said, “I want you, Greer.”
“Right…right now? Here?”
When I caught sight of his dimples, I knew I would give Hudson Higgins anything he asked for. So when he lifted me onto my desk and declared he was about to give me the best orgasm of my life, I absolutely let him.

I buzzed around my place with what I was sure was a post-orgasmic smile on my face. It had been hard to keep quiet while Hudson had his way with me in my office, but I’d managed somehow. Afterwards, he’d taken my hand and rushed me up the back steps and into my place, where we’d quickly stripped one another of our clothing and found ourselves in my shower. Whoever said shower sex sucked clearly never had it with Hudson.
With my outfit all picked out and Hudson on his way to pick up his parents, I took time to fix my hair into a French twist. I put on a little bit of makeup and then got dressed in the jeans and baby-blue sweater that Candace said I had to wear this evening. I finished off my outfit with simple diamond stud earrings and a necklace that had a book charm on it. I smiled and took in a deep breath when I saw that it was nearly six. Hudson would be back with his parents any minute now.
I nearly jumped for joy when the bell at my front door went off. He was fifteen minutes early.
“Hudson?”
“No, it’s Kyle, Greer. I need to talk to you right away.”
My heart nearly stopped in my chest as I buzzed the door open and heard my brother’s steps racing up to my place. I met him at the door and flung it open.
“What’s wrong? Is it Mom or Dad?”
He shook his head and stepped inside. “They’re both fine.”
“What’s the matter, then?”
“Aiden called me a little bit ago. Some guy made an appointment with him and said he was looking to purchase one of the buildings on Main Street. He wanted to get a rough bid from Aiden and a time frame on when he might be able to get the work done.”
“Okay, but what does that have to do with me?”
Kyle shook his head and walked over to the large windows that looked down on Main Street. “This is the address of the building he wants to buy, Greer.”
“What?” I asked, hearing the shock in my own voice. “That’s impossible.”
