Pirate's Promise (Sentinels of Savannah #5) - Lisa Kessler Page 0,8

the time. Except for Greyson. It was like he didn’t even try. His hair was long, and he didn’t try to hide his accent, some kind of piratical brogue that added to his swagger.

He crossed his arms over his broad chest and suddenly cocked his chin into her direction, making it obvious she was the topic of discussion. She rolled her eyes, unwilling to take the bait and confront him. Instead, she wandered to the back of the ship.

Let him complain about her. She was beyond giving a shit. After years of working in a field dominated by men, she’d heard every slur and fended off every come-on. This pirate was nothing new.

When she reached the stern, a woman came out of one of the cabins. Her long black hair was tied up in a messy bun, and when she turned her way, Aura recognized her from their Department 13 files.

Harmony Andrews had been a thief for the Digi Robins dark web ring. After stealing Pandora’s box from Department 13, Harmony had almost died in the fallout. John Smyth, the boatswain of the Sea Dog crew, had saved her and returned the stolen artifact to Aura’s boss.

Now Harmony was part of the crew, but Aura hadn’t realized she’d be sailing with them on this mission.

“You must be Agent Henderson?” she asked.

“Yeah.” Aura offered her hand. “You’re Harmony, right?”

She nodded, shaking her hand. “John thought my computer hacking skills might come in handy for this job.”

“Couldn’t hurt.” Aura released her hand and looked out at the land receding in the distance as the wind pulled them farther out to sea. “Nice to know I’m not the only woman onboard.”

Harmony laughed. “Char is on the lower deck, combing through books on Norse mythology, so there are actually three women on this boat.”

Dr. Charlotte Sinclair had worked for the maritime museum in Savannah prior to falling in love with the ship’s pilot, Keegan, and joining the Sea Dog crew. Having a history professor along for this mission could turn out to be useful.

Aura glanced over her shoulder toward the helm. Maybe this band of immortal pirates was smarter than she gave them credit for.

“Is the entire crew onboard?”

Harmony shook her head. “Heather stayed with Skye in Savannah.”

Heather Storrey was a gifted psychic medium with albinism. The intense sun exposure crossing the Atlantic would put her at risk, but from what Aura had read in the Department 13 files, Skye Hayes was a psychic with a strong ability to catch glimpses of the future. She could’ve been an asset during a mission like this.

“Is Heather in some kind of danger?”

“No. It was the other way around. Heather’s looking out for Skye.” Harmony stopped herself and glanced toward Keegan and Colton talking behind the massive wooden wheel at the helm, then quickly changed the subject. “I’m on my way to check the satellite wifi connection. Let me know if you need help getting connected.”

She left before Aura could respond.

Aura leaned against the railing, eyeing the last traces of land on the horizon. Harmony obviously didn’t want to talk about what kept Skye in Savannah, and Aura didn’t have any relationships among this crew to do any digging.

She hated being at a disadvantage, but she wasn’t powerless.

If she could reach Kingsley back at Department 13, he could poke around with some of their informants and see if there was any word on Skye and Heather floating around the metaphysical community.

She took out her phone and checked the signal. Two bars.

It would be better if she connected to the wifi Harmony had set up, but then Aura would be risking the crew having a chance to spy on her communications.

She hit Kingston’s name on her contacts and waited.

“Agent Henderson?”

“Hey, King.” She checked over her shoulder, keeping her voice low. “Any idea why the Sea Dog crew would leave a couple members behind? Anything I should be concerned about?”

He hummed into the phone, his keyboard clicking in the background. “I don’t see any notes from Agent Bale about their assignments, other than Greyson going undercover with you. Maybe they didn’t need the full crew. Who is missing?”

“Skye and Heather, two powerful psychics. They could have been assets to help us retrieve the Tyrfing. Are we sure the pirates are fully onboard with our team in this recovery?” She had every reason to doubt them, given their previous partnerships. Rarely did this immortal pirate crew follow an agreement to the letter. If there was a loophole, they exposed it.

“I’ll
