Pandora's Box - Eve Newton Page 0,68
my shriek as the males all dive for cover, hiding their eyes so they don’t accidentally gaze upon him and end their Demonic lives.
The magick bounces visibly as Lucifer hits it, snarling and drooling like the savage beast he is. With me on the floor on my back and in human form, he appears so much bigger now as I look up at him.
“Hold, you fucker,” I mutter to the forcefield that is locking him in. “Just hold until I figure this out.”
It appears to do as I beseech, even with Lucifer pounding on it with his gigantic fists and raking his sword-like talons down it.
“Elijah,” I pant and crawl over to him, where Killian has placed him on the ground.
I stifle my noise of shock. He is bleeding profusely; the entire right side of his torso is hanging off. Normally this wouldn’t affect me, but seeing one of my lovers like this, makes me want to vomit.
“My love,” I whisper to him, taking his face in my hands.
He grunts and lets out a strangled laugh. “It’s more than I expected,” he gasps, his breathing labored.
“Fuck you,” I hold back the sob that threatens to come out. “Die and I will fucking kill you.”
Aleister drops to his knees next to me and I look at him. “Let’s get him back to the residence,” he says quietly.
Killian wordlessly picks him up and vanishes with him, Shax takes Aleister and Drescal, which leaves Xavi and Devlin.
“Take him, please,” I say to Xavi.
“Belle,” she says, her voice tight. “Do not do anything stupid. Come back with us and we will figure this out together.”
She grabs my hand.
I look at Lucifer still growling and lashing out at the forcefield. That thing isn’t going to hold forever. If he gets out, all bets are off. I have to finish this.
“Annie,” Devlin says, taking my other hand. “We will finish this, once we’ve fixed Elijah.”
I don’t answer.
I don’t resist when I feel Xavi’s icy breeze wash over me.
“I can’t do this again,” I say stiffly when we land in Elijah’s bedroom at the residence, with everyone surrounding him, including Gregory and Sid.
I give Xavi a panicked look. “I can’t do this again,” I repeat and back out, pulling a cloak of disinterest over me to protect myself from the pain. I turn around and stalk to my bedroom, slamming the door shut behind me.
Chapter 34
Killian
I watch as Annabelle leaves the room. I want to go to her and drag her back, but she needs a minute. Her stricken expression when she looked at Elijah hurts me. She is in so much pain, but also in denial. Her focus will only be on eradicating Lucifer once and for all.
“You need to mix your blood with Annabelle’s,” I say to Shax. He looks at me with a puzzled frown.
“Long story, it healed Aleister. It has to work on this as well,” I say shortly. I have to push my own pain aside and deal with this.
“I’ll go to Belle,” he says quietly, accepting what I’ve said.
“No, I’ll go,” Gregory says. “She is hurting, she has distanced herself. I will get this done quicker.”
Shax nods briefly and Gregory disappears through the door.
“Hang on,” I whisper to Elijah, squeezing his hand.
He grunts and closes his eyes. He is still breathing though, so I take the opportunity to grab Devlin by the arm and haul him to the other side of the room.
“Start speaking,” I state.
He looks back at me, cocky as ever. “What do you want me to say?”
“I know that you know more than you’re letting on about what you read in the codex. It wasn’t just some reference to the number of the beast. What. Was. It?” I grit out.
He debates with himself for a second. “Okay, mate. You got me. I read several pages of the codex that night before Annabelle woke up, and I remember most of it.”
“I’m only interested in the bit we discussed,” I spit out, getting seriously annoyed with this little shit. Fucking Necros and their games.
“Fine,” he huffs. “But you didn’t hear it from me. I’m not even supposed to be able to see the damned thing, never mind be able to read it.”
“I’m aware,” I snarl. It is a mystery beyond aggravating how he has managed what Demons twice as powerful can’t.
“From the number of the beast, a new Hell will rise,” he quotes.
My heart skips a beat. I didn’t think it was possible. I did not think it was something
