Pandora's Box - Eve Newton Page 0,4

still don’t understand that connection. “Anyway, find Shax, find the box.”

“Why do you think he’s keeping it from you?” Aleister asks a damn good question.

“I’m not sure.”

“Earth?” Devlin asks.

I shake my head. “I didn’t get that feel.”

“If you go up there…the consequences will be dire,” Killian finally speaks up.

“I know,” I say lightly, avoiding Gregory’s eyes. I haven’t told him the whole truth about me.

“If you need to go to find the box and Shax, then you need to go,” Gregory says. “Aren’t you a rule-breaker?” He gives me a smile.

“Usually,” I say. “But this is different.”

“Why?” he asks, cottoning on that I’m hiding something.

“You haven’t told him?” Devlin asks, leaning forward. “Aren’t we supposed to be all in, Annie?”

I frown at him. Why is he being so fucking protective over Gregory?

“Told me what?” Gregory asks carefully.

I sigh and run my hand through my hair. “My destiny is so much more than this,” I state, gesturing around. “My father required me to be born for a very specific task.”

“What’s that then?” he inquires quietly.

“She’s the fucking Anti-Christ!” Devlin exclaims, getting pissed off with all of this back and forth. “She walks the Earth, she starts Armageddon.”

I scowl furiously at my Necromancer for being the biggest asshole in Hell. “Dev,” I hiss at him. I purposely didn’t tell Gregory about this because ‘Demon Queen’ is way easier to swing and put a spin on it that he could accept. If I’d thrown out the words ‘Anti-Christ’ at him, the resounding connotations of that would have been epic.

“Anti-Christ?” he repeats faintly.

“Yep,” I say brashly. Might as well fucking own it now.

“Apocalypse?” he stammers, looking over at Killian and shrinking back slightly in his chair.

“That’s right.”

“Fuuuuck,” he says and then slams his lips shut.

“So, you see that going there is not a decision to be taken lightly. However, I’m not sure Earth is the right place to look.”

“Is there any way to do a locator spell on it?” Drescal asks.

“No, I’ve tried. It’s protected.”

“But what if we all add our combined force to the spell?” Devlin asks, pulling a cigarette out of a pack and lighting it.

“Hmm…” I give Devlin a lingering look.

“Not just a pretty face,” he snickers.

“But it’s a big part, gorgeous,” I tease.

He beams and draws on his cigarette. “Think about it. Who knows? At this point, it’s worth taking a shot, yeah?”

“Yeah. Give me a while, okay. If we do have to go to Earth, I need to think about the best way to handle it.”

They all agree, and I stand up.

“Oh, don’t all be heroes and head outside. Darius does not mess about. Elijah has shit to do, the rest of you stay put.”

Aleister raises his hand as if he’s in class. “Uhm, I have to head back to the Rooftop. You know, also got shit to do.” His smile is slow and sexy. I nearly swoon.

“Yeah, forgot about you,” I giggle. “Go, but be safe.”

“He can’t catch me up there,” he replies and points up. He stands and swoops in to give me a kiss on the lips and then he is gone.

“Well,” I huff. “Anyone else I have to worry about?”

“Nope,” Devlin says. “You’re not getting rid of me now that I’m here.”

“Good,” I say. “I’ll be in my room. I’ll contact Sid, see if he can shed some light on where Shax is. I know his leaving is behind Hell freezing over. He needs to return, there’s nothing else for it. Feel free to wander around the residence to wherever your heart desires.”

After picking up Babe, I stalk off, my thoughts reeling. It all just makes perfect sense all of a sudden. Shax leaving has fucked with Hell and left me vulnerable. Killian was able to do what he did because of it.

I can’t help the burst of laughter that escapes when I wonder if Shax has a matching ‘K’ imprinted in his dick area. Serves him fucking right if he does.

Chapter 3

Gregory

“Wait,” I call after Annabelle.

She pauses in one of the small corridors that leads off the Dining Hall and turns around. She has the bat resting at her side and a smile on her face.

“You okay?” she asks.

I nod. “I’m fine. I just…” I swoop into her personal space and drag her towards me, pressing my lips to hers.

I kiss her softly at first, but when she opens up for me, I delve my tongue into her mouth tasting her. I hear her bat clunk to the floor as she leans into me,
