Outlaw (Wolves of Royal Paynes #4) - Kiki Burrelli Page 0,77

I wasn't worried about breakfast or anything that wasn't getting Quinlan to do that same thing on my dick. There was whipped cream left. I could make it real good for my boy.

"Diesel…" Quinlan laughed, drawing my attention to the fork in my hand, stretched toward Quin's mouth with nothing on it.

I stabbed a chunk of pancake and returned the fork to its position. "Your lips are damn distracting."

"They are?" he asked, all wide eyes and innocence. He licked his lips slowly, revealing all that doe-eyed naivety as the act it was.

I capture his lips with mine, thrusting my tongue inside his mouth to get more of his sweet taste. It wasn't the strawberries I savored, but something that was all Quin, natural, but new, with a weird hint of bubblegum—

Adrenaline shot through me in response to the smell. My wolf howled, inconsolable as long as Quinlan wasn't in our arms. He needed protecting, now more than ever. "You're pregnant."

"No, I'm Quinlan," he joked. When he looked up and noticed my stillness, he dropped his sarcastic smile. "How can you even tell? Hey—wait!"

Quinlan reached over my shoulder for his breakfast, but if what I thought was coming came, he'd want to be in the bathroom.

"Actually…" His voice quieted, and he sank off my shoulder and into my arms. "I think I'm going to—"

I had him at the toilet, seat up and his hair pulled back as the first jet of rainbow surprise splashed into the bowl.

"It's okay. You're okay, baby boy." I rubbed his head, stopping only to comb my fingers through his hair. Quinlan wouldn't like strands sticking to his forehead.

Luckily, the rainbow explosion was always dramatic, but also brief, and Quinlan soon straightened to wipe his mouth with the rag I handed him. "Is it weird that I just want to sit here and stare at it?" He didn't have his head in the bowl anymore, but his face turned down to the sparkling, swirling mixture.

I wouldn't have minded sitting and staring, but not at a toilet of puke—at Quin's dazed wonder. Now that I knew what the extra scent was, it came at me tenfold. My mate was pregnant. Quinlan was going to give magical birth to a child, and if we were lucky, the pup would inherit the majority of Quin's genes.

In two weeks' time, we would bring our baby into the world…

Into this world?

The same world with a gate that was slowly opening and connecting our world with hell.

Put that way, it didn't sound unwise to be procreating, but irresponsible.

If my wolf had the ability to bite me, he would've at that moment. I wanted this child and couldn't wait to watch Quinlan hold and rock our baby. But while my human side knew to face the realities of the moment head on, my wolf operated on instincts alone, which were telling us to protect Quinlan and keep him wrapped in something warm and safe. Nothing would hurt him because I wouldn't let anything near him.

While half our pack lay in the crosshairs of a demon organization, that was the only way I could see to be certain. I needed to find someplace to hide him, where our enemies didn't know to look and where he could ride out our battle with hell safely and out of danger. I'd have to be certain the place was truly safe, or I'd never be able to leave him. He shouldn't be alone, but Quinlan wouldn't go anywhere without his nephilim brothers, and they didn't belong in danger either. None of the pack did.

I should have pushed my foot down in the beginning with Jazz. If I had, the omegas wouldn't have gotten it in their minds that they were somehow also responsible for protecting the pack. Knox had been wrapped around Jazz's finger from first sight. Faust and the twins weren't much better. The other alphas might not be able to say no to their omegas, but I…

Couldn't either.

But when it was Quin's life and the life of our unborn at stake, I would.

I'd been waiting for the other nephilim to burst inside, alerted by either their pack or angelic bond. It hadn't taken this long when it was Hallie, but Quinlan had sounded so excited then, so happy.

"Quinlan, do you want to be pregnant?"

"Of course I do."

His reply came too quickly for me to believe it. "What is it? Are you worried about staying safe in the hotel? That's a valid concern, and I want—"

"No, I'm
