Only Her Blue-Collar Billionaire (Mystical Lake Resort #4) - Cami Checketts Page 0,1
she was completely alone. Even Dax laughed when she tried to sing to him.
“Why are you in here?” she asked. She could tease with the best of them but she wasn’t comfortable alone with some unknown man in a cabin in the woods. She shivered.
He bent down and opened a drawer, pulled out a white towel and handed it to her. “This is my cabin.”
His cabin? That relaxed her a little bit but she still wasn’t thrilled to be alone with him.
She guessed it was good he wasn’t bragging about his place and calling it a “mansion” like Ramon would, but if a home had five master suites—the master suite she was currently cleaning took up the entire top floor—she didn’t think it could be called a “cabin”.
She pressed the towel to her wet scalp and looked him over, trying to determine if she was in danger. He appeared very strong and … casual might be the best description. He didn’t seem like the type to own such a home and that put her on edge again. Had he broken in and was lying to her? She didn’t have information on owners of the homes she was working in, she simply cleaned where the company sent her.
She kept staring at him, trying to decide if she should sprint out of here or ignore him and keep polishing the shower. He had a rugged but handsome look to him as if he spent a lot of time working hard in the sun. He appeared to be the polar opposite of her perfectly poised and coiffed ex. The man she’d given her heart to. Until she realized the sheer stupidity of giving your heart to a person who had a heart of ice.
“This is your house?” she clarified, biding time.
“Don’t sound so surprised.” He folded his lean arms across his broad chest again and every muscle seemed to flex. Chelsea hadn’t given herself permission to feel attraction to a man since she’d escaped. Too risky. No matter how she tried to fight it, she was definitely feeling attraction at the moment. Which concerned her quite a bit. Attraction could have her letting her guard down. She definitely couldn’t afford to do that with a man.
“Not trying to slam on you. It’s an incredible house.” She dabbed at the wetness on her back and then clutched the towel with her left hand.
“Thank you.” He smiled and she found herself leaning against the glass shower enclosure. He had a very alluring smile. “I built it.”
“You built it?” He was stunning her even more. Yet that made more sense to her. Someone who could afford to have a palace like this custom built would have to be a millionaire, at least, but if he built it himself that would show hard work and talent not just extremely positive cash flow. She had a definite bad taste in her mouth for wealthy men after Ramon’s attitude of being affluent giving him the rights to control and dispose of any person he wanted. For reasons she wasn’t going to dissect, she didn’t want this guy to be a rich jerk.
“Yeah. I’m a contractor out of Jackson Hole.” He extended his hand. “Aster Chadwick. Pleased to meet you.”
She extended her hand automatically. She was relaxing around him and she didn’t know yet if that was a good thing or a bad thing. His slightly-calloused palm slid along the length of hers and then his large hand enveloped hers. She liked it. A lot. Liked his hand, liked his touch, liked him. She pulled back quickly. It’d just been too long since she’d welcomed a man’s touch. She couldn’t make a mountain out of a simple handshake. Even if this guy wasn’t extremely wealthy and a two-faced jerk, he was delicious-looking and obviously successful and she wanted none of him. Her focus was her baby boy, not dating handsome hotties. Not that this one was asking her out, and he didn’t appear to be a threat, but she was always prepared for any eventuality. Three years of being safe in this valley and she still only trusted men who were at least double her age.
“Are you related to Iris and Cat Chadwick?” she asked.
He nodded. “Iris is my sister, Cat’s my cousin.”
“I work for them. They’re the best.” It was another point in his favor. Iris and Cat were kind, fun, impressive, and beautiful. They treated Chelsea like an equal and a friend. Last year they slid her into
