lick them of any sustenance, though I turn the act into a kiss that steals a moan from her. “You missed a bit,” I say when I pull back.
Her blush pales in comparison to the one before. “Oh. Thanks.”
Fuck, I want to steal more moans from her. I’m tempted to take her somewhere private to do just that. But while I want the female to have some fun today, I also need her to learn how to use her power. That is the main focus today.
We start with the carnival’s fun house. The wonky floors prove to be quite an annoyance for me. For Jade, it is the maze of mirrors that perplexes her, but we do have fun looking at our warped reflections. Toward the end of the fun house, creatures jump out in an attempt to surprise us. Instead of gasping or giggling like the other females, my mate zaps the employees with her power, and we are escorted from the fun house by two sour-faced males.
I gesture to the knife-throwing booth. “That will be a good place to use your power without getting us kicked out.”
She grins and wipes her hands on her outfit. “Okay, but no touchy this time. I need to concentrate while not being distracted.”
I exhale loudly. “Very well.”
Once I pay the operator, I retrieve five holographic knives. The operator activates the game, and a beautiful creature appears, strapped down to a slowly rotating wheel.
Jade nearly drops the knife when I hand one to her. “Wait. The target is real?!”
“Only simulations,” I explain, angling her so that she’s facing the target directly. “They’ll regenerate once you kill them, which is the point of the game. The wheel spins faster the longer you take so it’s better to act fast.”
She shudders against me. “But can’t they feel pain?”
“They cannot. Now focus on your knife,” I say, tapping the blade. “Let your power surface. Do not suppress it; embrace it. Yes, like that. Imagine your power wrapping around the blade.” I move her hand, amazed at the natural command Jade possesses over her gift. “Now train your gaze on the red mark on the target’s face.”
A male in the booth next to us hits his target, causing the simulation to shatter, and Jade loses her concentration, dropping the knife to the ground. I retrieve it and zap the male for his disruption. He squeals as I throw the knife at the target, hitting it between the eyes.
The screen flashes to convey that I have won.
I turn to Jade. “Which prize would you like?”
She hesitates before shaking her head. “Thank you, but you keep it. I really want to win a prize on my own. That’s if I can do this.”
“You can, and you will.” I reject the prize and place a knife in front of Jade. “Focus entirely on this one object. When you have mastered control of it, then focus on the target. Allow the pressure to build before you release the knife. Your power will do the work for you if you let it. You simply need to control it first.”
The speed of the wheel increases the longer she stares at the knife. She coats the blade in her power and slowly raises her hand. The weapon hovers in the air, shaking slightly. I slide my hands around her waist, my power trickling into her, and she gasps.
“How does it feel to have this power coursing through you?” I ask.
She ponders the question for a moment. “Incredible. It’s like I’ve always had this darkness within me.”
In a way, she has; I have caught glimmers of it. Now she is a Darkblood by name and nature, and the sight of her using the power that I passed to her threatens to undo me. It’s the most sensational, erotic view I have ever witnessed. My darkness craves to dance with hers, and I almost surrender, eager to have her alone so I may claim her until she lies utterly spent in my arms.
“It’s working,” she says, her voice pulling me from such a pleasant reverie. “I’m no longer shaking.”
“Then focus on the target and release it. Trust your power not to fail you. For ancient Koraxian warriors, it was all they had in battle. They had no weapons, so they became one with their power. That’s what you need to do.”
“But what if I fail?”
I caress the small of her back, bringing my lips to her ear. “Then you will try again while I stand by
