are they?”

“Strawberry mango coconut. Kait and I have been on a tropical kick lately.”

“Sounds yummy. I’ll take four.”

Robin grabbed one of the blue-and-white-striped boxes. “The day spa next door is offering a two-for-one special.”

“Really? I’ll have to give that some serious thought. I could use some ‘me’ time. My husband is the worst patient ever, and Giselle is no help at all.”

Robin put in the last cupcake and closed the lid. “Maybe these will cheer you up a little.”

“They certainly can’t hurt. I must fly. I have to get to Walgreens before the pharmacy closes. Have a nice weekend.”

“You, too.”

Just before Trina reached the door, she stopped suddenly, her attention fixed on something outside. “I don’t believe it,” she muttered in disgust.

“What is it?”

Trina glanced over her shoulder. Two angry spots of color appeared in her cheeks. “It’s that horrid Reece Diamond. I’d know that flashy car anywhere. I doubt he’s going to the spa or the children’s clothing store. That only leaves this place. Be on your guard, Robin. He’s trouble. I told you what he did to Giselle.”

Robin liked Trina, and she didn’t blame her for believing her daughter. But she wasn’t going to hide her involvement with Reece. If it cost Truly Scrumptious a customer, then so be it.

“He’s coming to see me. Since you were here last, I started dating Reece.”

Trina’s eyes were in danger of popping out of her head. “Why would you do such a thing? You know what sort of man he is.”

“You and I view him differently, Trina.”

This got her a pitying glance. “I hope you don’t think you’ll be the one to get him to the altar. Leopards don’t change their spots. When you end up like all the others, don’t say I didn’t warn you.” Without another word, she swept out of the shop.

“That went about like I expected,” Robin muttered as she replaced the lid on the cupcakes. Reece strolled in a few seconds later.

“Hello, there. I got the dirtiest look from your last customer.”

“It could have been worse,” Robin said, smiling a little. “That was Giselle’s mother. She saw your arrival. She told me to be on my guard because men like you are trouble.”

He walked around the counter to where she stood. “In what way am I supposed to be trouble?”

“She didn’t go into detail, but I’ve been warned that I’m going to end up like all your other girlfriends.”

Reece lifted one of her hands and pulled off the food prep glove. Then he lowered his head and pressed a kiss on her wrist. Until this moment, Robin had never realized that spot was so sensitive. The agitated butterflies in her stomach and the weakness in her legs suggested otherwise. From there Reece’s lips moved to her palm. What sounded like a whimper escaped her lips. Aware that she was in imminent danger of falling, she clutched the edge of the counter.

“The question is,” he said softly, his blue eyes looking directly into hers, “do you believe her?”

Robin had lost track of the conversation, and pretty much everything else except the havoc Reece was creating inside her. “Um…”

“Never mind,” he murmured just before his lips claimed hers in a searing kiss that seemed to draw her soul from her body.

When they came up for air, her ponytail had shifted to the side of her head, her apron was askew, and the other glove had joined the first on the ground. She stooped to pick them up and toss them in the trash can. “You owe me a pair of gloves.”

* * * * *

Reece watched with amusement as Robin made the necessary adjustments to her appearance. “Don’t rate your kisses so cheaply. What I got was worth a thousand pairs of gloves.”

“Is that so?” She tugged on his tie. “Come with me.”

He followed her into the kitchen. “This has to be too good to be true.”

“It depends on what you think is going to happen.”

He chuckled. “What’s on my mind should be obvious by now.”

She patted his cheek. The effect was very different from when Aunt Leigh or Addison did it. Every time Robin touched him, his body went up in flames.

“That’ll have to wait until I finish these cupcakes.”

His glance went to the work table. “Can I do anything to help?”

Robin pulled on a new pair of gloves and motioned him to do the same. “Sure. You can core the cupcakes for me.”

“Is that like coring apples?”

“It’s easier.” She picked up a red plastic tube with
