No Matter What (The Billionaires of Sawgrass #4) - Delaney Cameron Page 0,35
nearby stool. “All I did was make a phone call. I’ve got good news for you. Harvey’s got a place a few miles from here. It’s an older home, but the kitchen and bathrooms were renovated last year. He called it ‘ocean view’ which can mean many things depending on who you talk to. The college students who’ve been renting the house moved out a few days ago. He said he’d leave the key under the mat in case you wanted to look at it today.”
By the time he finished, Robin’s eyes were shining. That same feeling of being in freefall swept over him again. The exception was this time he didn’t care that he couldn’t save himself. The landing would undoubtedly be rough, but there was nothing to compare with the thrill of that high-octane trip to the ground.
“It sounds perfect! Thank you so much, Reece. If I hurry, I should have time to run over there before I go home. Wade is taking me to dinner tonight. I wish Kait was around to see the house. She took Owen to the zoo. I’ll have to make do with sending her pictures.”
“If you want a second opinion, I’ll be happy to go with you.”
She bagged another loaf with effortless precision. “I’m sure you’ve got better things to do.”
The only thing better would be kissing her, and that wasn’t going to happen. “I can’t think of anything.”
The smile she sent him had him wishing for the hundredth time that fate had seen fit to let him be the one standing behind her at the dry cleaners instead of Wade.
“In that case, grab a pair of gloves from that box on the shelf and help me finish bagging this bread.”
Things couldn’t have worked out better from Reece’s perspective. Half a loaf was always better than none, right? It might not be wise to spend time with Robin, but the only person who could be hurt by it was him.

Robin smiled when they turned the corner of the building and a flame-colored Lamborghini came into view. There could be others in Jacksonville, but she was fairly certain this was the one she and Kait had seen parked at Baptist Medical a few weeks ago.
“Kait is going to be mad about missing the chance to ride in your car.”
“If she’s around when we get back, I’ll take her for a drive.”
“If you do that, you may never get home tonight.”
“That’s okay. I don’t have any plans.”
She sent him a teasing glance. “How can that be? Don’t you have a list of girls on standby?”
His lips twitched as he opened the passenger door and helped her inside. “Afraid not. The only girl in my life at the moment is Gypsy.”
As Robin watched him walk around to his side, she felt guilty for believing those things about him. She of all people should have remembered there are two sides to every story. She didn’t know what the true one was between Reece and Giselle Farmer, but she did know he wouldn’t knowingly hurt anyone. Such behavior would be out of character.
Once they were on the road, Robin found out that there’s no such thing as blending into the crowd in a Lamborghini. Everyone stopped what they were doing to stare at the exotic-looking vehicle and get a glimpse of its occupants. She recalled her comment to Kait about it being ‘just a car’. Boy, had she been wrong. This was an experience all its own.
Her glance flicked to the large hand resting almost lazily on the steering wheel. Reece certainly wasn’t nervous. This was nothing out of the ordinary to him. It wasn’t so with her. She’d be scared to death to operate a vehicle capable of such raw power.
When she confessed this to Reece, he said, “You only feel that way because it’s new and different. The unfamiliar is always scary.”
“Is that a hint that if I become familiar with boats, they won’t be scary?”
He shot her a quick, sideways glance. “Actually, it wasn’t. But since you brought it up, have you told Wade yet?”
A sigh slipped through her lips. “No. Telling him about Owen is enough at the moment. When he finds out I faint at the thought of being on a boat, I’ll probably never hear from him again.”
“You don’t really believe that, do you? Anyone with eyes can see how Wade feels about you.”
Others might be able to see it, but as yet, Wade hadn’t verbalized it.
