Night Kissed (Chosen Vampire Slayer #1) - Mila Young Page 0,44
your name.”
The demon smirked. “But you do know it.” The tip of his index finger curled under my chin, propping my face up so I couldn’t avert my eyes. “Say it. Out loud.”
His demand felt like sacrilege, but I wasn’t able to articulate why. My brain, which I tried to keep so calm and collected under these exact circumstances, had been totally turned on its end, all the thoughts inside churning and flustered. Did I even remember my own name?
I clamped my lips shut tight and shook my head. He threw his head back and laughed. The sheer power in his joy chilled my bones. There was a distinct, yet unspoken acknowledgement that everything he did or said was at my expense, an express intent to exploit me for his own gain. I shouldn’t have been into it. Not even a little bit. But I was. Each time I’d crossed paths with him, that intensity and curiosity inside me heightened even more. Whatever was going on between us, I craved to let myself fall, to see what it would be like to have such a dangerously gorgeous demon show me a different kind of attention.
When he kissed me again, so fiercely I felt his heat radiate through my whole body, I failed to stop him.
Looking back on the moment later, I had no excuse. Maybe I would’ve tried to justify my consent by pointing out that I hadn’t gotten laid in months, that schoolwork and vamp slaying left no time for any kind of relationship, including a one-night stand, and my body was starved for physical attention. I might have admitted that despite being the embodiment of true evil—or perhaps because of it—he knew exactly what to do with his tongue.
By the time he’d made his way to my neck and shoulder, I was weak at the knees, stifling a moan. The way he touched me made me want to fall to the floor in his arms. My fight or flight senses tingled through every rough kiss and demanding caress. His hands began to roam over every inch of skin he could uncover.
“C’mon,” he murmured. His lips brushed the skin just below my right ear. “Say my name.” One hand snaked around my waist and planted its palm firmly on my ass. He squeezed. “Take any longer and I won’t ask so nicely.”
I huffed and glared at him, determined to give up no hint of satisfaction. “What, Seth? That what you want?”
He narrowed his eyes. “I’ll give you credit for your guts and your tits.”
Another kiss stole my breath. My fingers clenched around the front of his shirt. I was starting to get used to the near-bitter way he tasted; frankly, I was starting to enjoy it somewhat. And I knew he had the ability to tell what my body didn’t want him to know.
“Why don’t we make the most of our little unsupervised visit?” he suggested. His bright, keen eyes leered at me, and for a moment, the unabashed eeriness of his gaze was enough to snap me out of my trance of desire. Smart, rational, no-screwing-demons Veronica prevailed.
“One, no.” I shoved him backward hard enough to catch him by surprise. He came within a hair’s breadth of losing his balance and sprawling backward onto the ground. “Two, fuck off. We are not doing this today. For any reason.”
Seth recovered himself quickly. He straightened his clothes, ran a hand through his hair, and stared at me with a coldness in his expression that cut like a knife. I knew by his face that running would be useless. He’d catch me, and after that, who knew what would happen? Would he tear me limb from limb and devour my organs? Would he chain me to a radiator and force me to fulfill his every command? My battles usually consisted of facing off vampires, sometimes shifters. But demons…that was a first.
All I understood for sure was that nothing could be put past him. He was ruthless, and he’d made it clear that I had something he wanted.
My only option left was to fight. To that end, before he had the chance to move another muscle, I put my head down and rushed him. On the face of it, the effort was pretty futile. He stood at least a foot taller than me, built like a brick wall forged in hellfire. My shoulder drove no higher than the base of his sternum. I didn’t have to check to know the impact was
