Night Kissed (Chosen Vampire Slayer #1) - Mila Young Page 0,32

an immediate depression. A black cloud formed in my head as I forced myself to step away.

“Where you going?” the vamp croaked from the ground. He pried one hand off his neck and used it to flip me off.

“Hey.” I glanced back at him. “A word of advice? Don’t press your fucking luck.”

VERONICA

I gripped the stake at my belt having just watched Seth battle a handful of vamps. Who started the fight was questionable as I stumbled upon them mere seconds earlier. Though that was enough time to reveal Seth as a man who never backed down and let his rage rule him. Not to mention his ego. Except, he wasn’t really a man, was he? With every punch and kick he had delivered, thin threads of dark smoke curled out from the corners of his mouth and nostrils.

I’d seen my fair share of supernaturals, so what was a demon doing out of Hell and in Anchorage of all places?

They were known for their berserker-like fighting tendencies.

Unrelenting.

Ferocious.

Unstoppable.

They were the warriors of the supernatural world and no one volunteered to battle them. Well, unless you were a tribe of idiotic vampires who had no clue.

Fury filled his eyes as he had reached for the throat of another vampire, then dropped him to the ground. It intrigued me that he worked with the clanmaster, yet openly destroyed vamps. Maybe these were Orion's clan enemies? It was hard to tell in all honesty.

Though it was difficult to ignore Seth’s strength and power. Something tightened in my chest at seeing how easily he dealt with the vampires, at the way his muscles flexed. One thing was for sure, he was having a blast taking down these fiends.

After a small exchange with the vamp still on the ground, Seth whipped around and walked away from him, his face twisted into a frustrated expression. He was headed right in my direction.

Our gazes locked, and I quickly retreated down the narrow street lined with storefronts. Lowering my hand from the stake, I licked the cold from my lips, and stood tall as he rounded the corner. Of course I expected him to come this way.

"Have you taken to spying just on me now?" he asked, looming over me, wearing all black from his boots to the heavy coat that fell to his waist. The tone in his voice didn’t belong to someone angry but carried a playful tone.

"I have better things to do with my time. If you happen to be in my path, then that’s not my problem."

He arched a brow and gave a slight shake of his head as if unsure if he liked my answer. As much as I reminded myself who stood in front of me, my body betrayed me in response to the eye-candy studying me from head to toe.

Never in a million years would I have expected myself to think that about a demon, but Seth was unlike any of the beasts I'd encountered. He was built to be a fighter, broad and powerful, yet those solemn eyes and damn perfect lips undid me. The darkness behind his gaze told of heartache, or a broken past. It called to me, drew me to him, and for a short pause, I let myself believe someone like him and me could have something in common. All the hurt and guilt that chewed me up on the inside reflected from his eyes.

"If you keep looking at me that way, I'm going to take that as an invitation, little girl."

My thoughts evaporated, bringing me back to the present and under the watchful eye of a demon.

"That's not happening. Anyway, what was all that about?" I stuck my chin out in the direction he’d just come from. I reminded myself who I dealt with and the danger he posed, the unpredictability. He wasn't a man to let myself lust over.

"Just a small altercation I'm sorting out very soon. So, are we going back to your place or mine?"

I laughed at his presumption. "Keep dreaming. If that's how you come onto women, I bet you strike out a lot."

He drew in a sharp breath and raked a hand through his hair. "I like you. You don't back down. I admire feisty women. And you don't want to know how many women flock to me." That deviously sexy grin split his lips, revealing a white row of perfect teeth.

The air between us thickened, my heart thumping into my ribcage. His yellowing eyes caught the light of the bright
