sleeping together, I didn’t allow myself to imagine for even a minute that I could have that life with him now.

But even when things did end between us, maybe I would have a little piece of that life after all. In the form of a baby we’d created together.

Pushing those thoughts away, I lifted my head to look down at him. He was on his back, where he’d finally fallen, completely exhausted, only minutes before. He’d dragged me on top of him, and I’d nearly fallen back asleep from the way he was rubbing his fingertips up and down my spine. But my stomach growled, reminding me that we hadn’t eaten lunch earlier. A glance at the digital clock on the bedside table told me it was getting close to dinnertime, and I was about to venture into hangry territory if we weren’t careful.

Jordan turned his head, following my gaze. Seeing the time, he muttered a curse and sat up. “Take a shower, baby. We’ll go out for dinner.”

“But I just wanted to veg in bed with you for the rest of the night. Can’t we order in?” I pouted up at him when he climbed out of bed. “Jordan!” He picked me up with a grin and carried me into the bathroom. “I don’t want to go out.”

“We’ll go somewhere small,” he said, setting me on the sink and moving to turn on the shower. “I promise you’ll enjoy the food, and we won’t be gone long.” When he walked back to me, I happily spread my legs to give him easy access to my naked body. But after a brief kiss, he stepped away. “You shower and get ready while I make a quick call.”

As he walked out of the bathroom, I stuck out my tongue at him.

“I saw that, minx,” he grumbled as he closed the door behind himself.

Giggling, I hopped down and crossed to the now-steaming shower. An hour later, I walked into the living room to find him already dressed and ready to go. He was wearing a suit, so I was glad I’d gone with the little black dress I’d packed, as well as taken the time to do my hair and makeup.

When his eyes landed on me, they darkened with hunger, and I watched as his jaw clenched. “Dinner and then I’m bringing you back here and fucking you all damn night,” he said, almost as if he were warning me.

I picked up my purse and phone. “Don’t threaten me with a good time.” Winking at him, I walked to the door, calling over my shoulder, “But we need to stop at the drugstore on the way back and pick up condoms.”

“Right,” he muttered, following me out of his apartment. “Don’t want to forget the protection. I’ve only filled you to your eyeballs with come in the last twenty-four hours.”

I hid my smile as I pressed the call button for the elevator. It sounded like he was pouting, but I didn’t look at him to confirm if he was or not, afraid he would see how much I liked that he was sulking over the idea of having to glove up with something we knew wouldn’t break the next time he was inside me.

The elevator doors opened, and I walked in, leaving him there to pout or to follow me. I heard him grumble something to himself a split second before he grabbed me around the waist and turned me to face him. After hitting the button for the garage, he backed me against the wall and kissed me senseless.

I didn’t even notice when we stopped several times on the way down. It was only when he finally released me and I saw the others exiting ahead of us that I realized we hadn’t been alone.

Jordan took my hand in one of his and lifted his other to brush his thumb over my kiss-swollen bottom lip. “You’re so beautiful, I lose my mind when I’m this close to you.”

I sucked his thumb into my mouth, causing him to groan like he was in physical pain. That sound vibrating out of his chest made me feel oddly powerful. Releasing the digit with a wet pop, I moved toward his car. With his hand still holding mine, he was right beside me, and he opened the passenger door for me.

Once we were in traffic and stopped at a red light, he reached out and touched my necklace, pulling my eyes to him. He had a
