Moving On (Rolling Thunder #7) - P.J. Fiala Page 0,48
I'm Doctor Epps."
"Hi, Doc. Chase Matthews and my girlfriend, LuAnn Mason."
Doctor Epps looked over at LuAnn and nodded, "Nice to meet you both."
He pulled the chart from the foot of the bed, looked it over, and then neared the bedside. He examined the bruises running down and across Chase's chest and then his left arm. Dr. Epps gently touched and added pressure to his left shoulder, and then his ribs; Chase managed not to groan too loudly but damn that did hurt. Pulling the pen light from the front pocket of his lab coat, Dr. Epps then shined the light into Chase's eyes, moved it around watching his pupils dilate a few times then clipped the pen light back into his pocket.
"How is your headache?"
"It's dulled quite a bit through the day."
"Good." Doctor Epps wrote something on his chart then looked at him. "I think we can let you go home tomorrow. The nurse mentioned that you were worried about trembling in your hands. I wouldn’t be concerned unless it persists for more than a week or so. If it does continue past that time, schedule an appointment with your doctor. Remember you had quite an accident. Do you have someone at home to help you out if you become ill? Moving around might be difficult the next couple of days and it would help if someone were there to help you manage."
He turned his head to LuAnn, "Can you stay with me and play nurse?"
Her cheeks burned bright red, but her lips curved up into a beautiful smile. "I can stay and help you out. Not sure how great a nurse I am, but I can cook and clean and help with chores."
He smiled at her. It would be nice having her there with him. Turning to Doctor Epps, he replied, "Yep, I have help."
The doctor chuckled and so did the nurse. "Okay. I'll be around in the morning to sign your discharge papers."

As the doctor and nurse left the room, LuAnn sat on the side of Chase's bed. "I honestly don't know how good a nurse I'll be, but I do promise to try my hardest to help you out. For the time being, do you need groceries at home? I can get some shopping done and put something in the crock pot so you can have a nice lunch when we get you home tomorrow."
His smile, oh how she loved his smile. When he turned it toward her it felt like a spotlight shining right on her.
"I haven't had the time to get groceries and the cupboards are bare I'm afraid."
She smiled right back at him, it was hard not to because despite the circumstances right now, she was stupidly happy. He loved her. She loved him. They could do this.
"I'll go to the grocery store when I leave here. Tell me some of your favorites and I'll make sure I pick them up."
Pulling her phone from her back pocket, she opened a shopping list app she had and turned on the microphone. As Chase listed his favorites, the app wrote them out.
"Chocolate ice cream. Not with marshmallows - just good old chocolate ice cream. Spinach for a great salad. Bacon, eggs, milk, cheese. You'll need to check the freezer to see what I have in there for meat. An old-fashioned roast beef with potatoes and carrots sounds like a slice of heaven right now. Oh, and beer and bottled water. I like smoked almonds for a snack and..."
She laughed. "I think you're hungry."
"I am. I didn't eat much yesterday and I wasn't hungry this morning, but now, I want to eat everything in sight."
He tugged her hand pulling her close and his lips captured hers. His hands framed her face as his lips alternated between soft kisses then consuming long, wet hungry kisses and it was hard to tell which she liked more. Matching his kisses with hers she planted her hands on either side of his hips, so she didn't push against his bruises and allowed him to kiss her all he wanted because she wanted all of his kisses.
"Well, it looks like you're being taken care of."
Her heart skipped a beat as Gunnar's voice ripped through the air. She sat back, but Chase held her hand, keeping her on the side of the bed with him.
"I'm in good hands." He smiled at her as he answered Gunnar.
Gunnar's eyes slid over to hers and her skin crawled at the venomous look in his.
