Let Me Find Your Omega - Ashe Moon Page 0,54
you guys. You’ve got that spark.”
“Yeah, well… doesn’t change the situation. He can’t be in a relationship.”
My mind flashed back to last night, and I was staring into his eyes again, getting completely swept away by how incredible it was to be with him. Dammit, I wanted to be with him, and despite what I knew about his situation, there was something in the back of my head that kept me thinking there was a chance he would change his mind.
Change his mind! It was insane. He’d taken a vow, and I had to respect that. It was stupid of me to expect something more, but it was also too late for me to feel differently. I’d fallen hard for Kole.
Imagine that. After twelve years with a frozen heart, I’d truly been convinced that I’d never feel love again. But it was back, and it was real.
I didn’t know how he really felt. All I could go off of was what we’d shared the past few days, and that was a lot. I wanted to believe that he felt the same as me and that with some time, maybe we could figure this thing out.
I was finding it super difficult to keep my expectations in line. Damn impossible, really. All I could think about was seeing him again.
“By the way,” Ivan said, slinging his arm around my shoulder, “we’ve got some good news, too.”
“Really?”
“Jillian, you want to tell him?”
“Dammit, honey,” she said, looking up from the stack of credits. “You made me lose count.”
“Oops.”
She held up her finger to ask for a moment, and then quickly flipped through the bills while counting under her breath. We stood there waiting, and then she finally zipped up the money, exhaled, and grinned. “Markos, you’re gonna be an uncle.”
My jaw dropped. “No fucking way. No fucking way!”
I hugged my brother and beckoned Jillian over, and I threw my arms around the both of them and squeezed them as tight as I could.
“Hounds of hell, I’m so happy for you two! Oh, I’m so happy. Elise is gonna be thrilled! Congratulations.”
“Thanks, man,” Ivan said, with a little sparkle in his eyes.
“I’m gonna be an uncle,” I said, absolutely glowing for them. “Oh, wow. Wow. I’m so happy for you guys. You deserve this. I’m so glad it finally happened.”
I made us each a cup of premium Adoshian coffee to toast the good news. They’d been trying for so incredibly long that I’d honestly begun to believe it wasn’t going to happen.
Ivan nudged me with his elbow. “I think this is a good sign. Luck is on our side. I have a good feeling that things are going to work out for you guys.”
“Thanks,” I said, grinning like an idiot. The thought of Jillian and Markos having a kid, and me and Kole together… It made me so incredibly happy. A future to look forward to.
We continued with the cleanup, and after a while, Ivan said, “Markos, I see you checking the clock. Go. Jillian and I will take care of closing up.”
“Are you sure?”
“Go for it,” Jillian said. “We’ve got it.”
“Thanks, guys,” I said, and I hurried into the back to change out of my work clothes. I decided that Ivan was right—I was feeling lucky. During dinner, I would tell Kole exactly how I felt about him.
I crossed the street and jogged up the sidewalk towards the Moonstar Dating Agency. The sun was just about to dip below the buildings on the horizon, and the skyscrapers of downtown Mir glinted beautifully in the evening light. I felt like I was floating. Everything was great. The air even smelled good; the usual pungency of the city wasn’t getting to me like it normally did.
I skidded to a halt in front of the local flower shop. Kole liked house plants—maybe there was something I could get for him. I browsed around and asked the guy working there for a recommendation for something good that could represent a new love. He picked out an Elforian lily—just a pot with some leaves, but he explained it was due to bloom soon. I didn’t think twice about buying it. It was perfect; Elforian tea was the first thing I’d given to Kole, after all.
Plant in hand, I hurried down the block until I reached his office. The door was locked, so I knocked and waited. A little shiver went through me, I was so excited to see him. The door opened and Kole peeked out.
“Hey,” I said, grinning
