Learning to Trust - M.A. Innes Page 0,74

bothered watching us giggle and—”

“Stop that.” I had no desire to hear where that conversation was going.

The words “Destin” and “hot and bothered” did not belong in the same sentence.

The troublemaker giggled but put his hands together and fluttered his eyelashes at me. “I’ll be good if you tell me. I just want to know if you’re happy and he’s happy and you’re being a functional adult and talking to him. I’m not sure I can trust you to have a relationship on your own. You didn’t even realize you were boyfriends. It’s troubling.”

He was a dick. But sometimes he had a point.

“I am doing my best to keep Morgan happy while figuring out what I want and need.” After hearing earlier that Destin and I would be having lunch together on campus, Morgan had laughed and teased about all the dirty questions he’d been dodging from Destin via text.

“Ah, come on. You know that’s too vague. Morgan said you could talk to me.” Destin batted his eyelashes at me again.

A quick conversation as I was leaving made it clear that Morgan had just been avoiding them because driving Destin crazy was fun, but he’d also said he wasn’t sure what I was comfortable with sharing. We ended the discussion with him explaining that he was okay with anything I wanted to share because Destin and his Doms were in such a similar relationship it would be silly to hide things from him.

I wasn’t sure I agreed with the logic, but keeping things from Destin was painfully difficult. So with Morgan’s blessing, I opened up a bit. But first I glanced around again to make sure we couldn’t be overheard as we headed toward the café where we were going to get lunch. “We explored how he felt about spankings and then showered together.”

“Oh, that’s so cute. Your first spanking together.” His expression was so sincere and excited that I almost forgot what he was so enthusiastic about.

“Please don’t say it that way. It wasn’t our first day at kindergarten.” I shot him a look that said to behave as he giggled.

“Okay, I won’t say how cute it is that you got naked together for the first time.” Then for some reason his face clouded over and he looked worried. “You didn’t put your bathing suit on, did you?”

“For the love—” I took a deep breath as he watched me, sincerely worried. “No, I did not wear a bathing suit.”

He let out a breath. “Good. I was worried you wouldn’t be comfortable being naked with him. I know you said the he’s a guy thing isn’t important to you, but I wasn’t sure you’d know what to do with him once you guys got naked.”

That was sweet but deeply disturbing as well. “You don’t need to worry about the more intimate side of my life.”

“Of course I do.” Destin was staring at me like I was an idiot. “You’d never get one unless I pushed. Now that would be okay if you were asexual, but since that might not be the case, you need a push now and then or you’re going to end up unhappy and not able to explain why. I can see how important Morgan is to you just by hearing you talk about him. I don’t want you to screw it up.”

I shot him a frustrated look. “He’s being very patient with me, and I’m doing my best to find common ground where he gets what he needs and I’m comfortable with the limits. I think I’m doing just fine.”

Destin nodded. “Because I’m not letting you do it on your own. It’s okay. You don’t have to thank me. We both know how stubborn you are.”

Why in hell had I agreed to go to lunch with him? Especially one that was such a fucking long walk?

“I am not even going to respond to that.” Hoping to be able to turn the conversation, I focused on him. “How is your relationship going?”

I’d hoped for the G-rated details, but that was too much to expect.

“You know how I got that cute little fifties housewife outfit for that sexy dinner we had? Well, that was so much fun I think I’m going to get some lingerie. What do you think?” The sincerely asked question made me want to squirm and possibly hide under the picnic tables we’d just passed, but I knew that wasn’t an acceptable option.

Aside from embarrassment, my first thought was that it wasn’t my business, but
