Kindred Spirit - Noah Harris Page 0,28
leaving a vacuum where the warmth of his body had been only a second before. Levi huffed out a breath, running his tongue over his tingling bottom lip.
“I guess that’s another talent of yours,” Levi murmured.
Now it was Jacob’s turn to look bashful. “I guess.”
It was now or never. Jacob had taken all the right first steps for Levi, which meant the ball was in his court. With anyone else, Levi wouldn’t have hesitated to take things further. Sex was sex, and sometimes he just needed the touch of another person and the rush of sexual pleasure. But with Jacob, he couldn’t shake the feeling that to go any farther would be risking so much more than just a one night stand. He didn’t know how he knew it exactly, but his gut told him to be cautious.
Levi…
Lou’s wary voice only served to make him even more determined not to back down. He was tired of his friend constantly getting in the way anytime someone tried to get just a shade too close for Lou’s liking. If it wasn’t the very state of his life driving people away or pushing him from them, it was the spirit that was equally best friend and bane of his existence.
So maybe flirting with whatever spark had been lit between him and Jacob would lead only to misery and heartache. And he really should have learned how to keep himself in better control after so many years on the run. His was a lonely life, locked with a being that could only give him so much and understood so little at times.
He was still human, damn it, and he still craved more than he knew he could have. Good moments were so few and far between for him. He had to take them when he could, consequences be damned.
Jacob tilted his head to one side. “You okay?”
The man was pulling away, and Levi felt panic rise in his chest and into his throat. Deciding that enough was enough, he flung himself forward, pushing Jacob against the opposite wall. Their bodies flush against one another once more, Levi pulled their lips together. No longer tentative, no longer cautious, he felt the ache of loneliness rise up and become hunger and need.
Consequences be damned.
Jacob
For a moment, Jacob thought he’d gone too far. Despite having responded to the kiss, Levi had been left frozen in the middle of the kitchen. His face was as honest as ever, though, and the fear on his face was obvious. He’d refused to look Jacob in the eye, and his gaze darted from side to side as though tossing his thoughts back and forth. Wincing and hoping that he hadn’t ruined whatever there might have been, Jacob took a step back.
Then, Levi was in motion. With the same startling speed he’d exhibited in the motel room, Levi leaped forward. Jacob had a split second to decide what was happening before his back hit the wall with a thump, and Levi was wrapped around him. Levi’s warm mouth was against him again, this time with far more purpose and enthusiasm than there’d been before.
Jacob wound his arms around Levi’s waist, yanking the man closer and kissing him back fiercely. The tentative heat of their first kiss blazed into a sudden inferno of absolute need. He didn’t hesitate in shoving his hand up the back of Levi’s shirt, feeling the taut and well-used muscles of his back shift and roll beneath his touch.
Levi shuddered against him, pressing his hips close as their tongues slid over one another. Jacob took a deep breath, hearing it shake as he broke the kiss, nipping at Levi’s jaw. There was no subtlety to the way Levi’s eyes flashed up at him hungrily, no caution as he pushed his hands up Jacob’s shirt and groped his stomach. Much like had happened before, Jacob had willingly taken the first few steps and set Levi’s enthusiasm into motion for a threefold return.
“Levi,” Jacob managed, throat tight.
Levi chuckled throatily. “Don’t worry, I’m not getting too pushy. Don’t have any condoms anyway.”
Well, that was a shame, and Jacob allowed himself a momentary twinge of regret. Still, there were other ways to have fun, and all Jacob wanted to see was Levi enjoy himself.
Jacob’s fingers slid down to the button of Levi’s jeans, undoing the snap. “Lube?”
“For...personal use,” Levi said, leaning back.
Jacob bowed forward, sucking on Levi’s neck, trailing down to nibble on his collarbone. Levi’s arms draped over Jacob’s shoulders, hands running
