Just a Positive Pregnancy Test - London Casey Page 0,8
voice said.
I moved my head and saw Tyler walking toward Olivia.
“Shit,” I whispered.
“What did I just hear?” Tyler asked.
“I didn’t say a word,” Crosby said.
“Tyler, relax,” Olivia warned.
“I think I just heard my brother say my sister is… pregnant,” Tyler said. “And I only have one sister. That’s you, Mila.”
Tyler had that smug look on his face.
I took a deep breath. “Fine. There’s nothing to hide here. I’m pregnant. Okay? I’m pregnant. That’s why I’ve been distant for the last few days. I’ve been taking pregnancy tests and trying to figure out what to do next. Silas is on the road. I’m living at the inn. I’m not sure what’s going to happen in my life. But… here I am… pregnant. I’m pregnant!”
“You’re pregnant too?”
I turned on my heels and gasped when I saw Ma.
Goddamn Justa family… they’re everywhere!
“Ma,” I said. “I didn’t want you to find out like this. I didn’t want you to be upset with me…”
“You’re pregnant?” Ma asked.
“Yes,” I said.
She hurried down the hallway and grabbed my right hand. Then she grabbed Olivia’s left hand.
She took us to the dining room where she announced with excitement that she was having two grand babies almost at the same time.
There was silence for a second or two until I pointed to my stomach and my face turned bright red.
Everyone then began to cheer again, jumping up to come hug me. And to hug Olivia again.
I looked at Olivia and she reached for my hand.
She squeezed it tight.
Telling me I wasn’t going to be alone.
Which I already knew.
I still miss Silas.
I still needed to tell Silas I was pregnant.
Chapter Four
SILAS
I watched Mickey enter the bar, his phone in his right hand, thumbs dancing along the screen, his eyes moving from the phone to the bar, back to the phone, then to the bar again, only to find me waiting.
By the time he got to me, he had tucked his phone into his pocket.
He knew how to give someone his full attention, especially with me. If he even tried to mess around with his phone while talking to me, I’d just walk away.
I stood up and shook hands with him.
He pulled himself toward me for a hug.
“Silas,” he said, smacking my back.
“Mickey,” I said.
“What are we drinking tonight?” Mickey asked, breaking the hug and rubbing his hands together.
“Just a beer for me,” I said. “I’m driving.”
“Right, of course,” Mickey said. “I’ll have the same.”
The bartender looked my way and I pointed to my glass.
He gave a thumbs up.
Mickey and I sat down.
A cold beer was placed in front of him.
He smiled at me. “I know you don’t do the cheers thing.”
“Exactly,” I said.
I grabbed my glass and took a sip of my beer.
Mickey laughed. “What a pain in the ass you are.”
“I’ve made you a few bucks,” I said. “I still do. How much do you make off me a year?”
“Ah, those are just numbers.”
I smiled. “You’re such a smooth prick sometimes.”
“It’s what pays the bills. What are we doing here, Silas? You asking me to meet up for a drink and a bite to eat…”
“I know,” I said. “Let’s order first.”
“I don’t like the sound of that.”
I nodded. “Neither do I.”
I took the last bite of the burger and shook my head.
You never knew what you were getting with bar food. It could either be something dug up out of a dumpster out back or the best damn food you’d ever taste.
This place was damn good.
Mickey ate a grilled chicken salad, telling me that when I got to be his age, I’d have to do the same. He said if he ate a burger like me, he’d end up with heartburn half the night and then have stomach issues on the toilet in the morning.
All of which I had no interest in hearing about.
I ordered another round of beers for us and figured it was time to talk.
The bartender took the empty plates and I turned toward Mickey.
“I can’t do it anymore.”
“Shit,” Mickey said. “I knew you were going to say that.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah. You’re killing me here, Silas. One week you’re on the road, the next week you’re bailing on shows. It’s back and forth. Sometimes it looks cool to do. You look like a rebel, you know? The badass who ditches a show. But over time…”
“I know. This is different now.”
“Because of Mila.”
“Yeah.”
“I haven’t even started there, Silas. She has talent. A lot of talent. I can kick myself for putting her on the road with you. I wanted
