moment!”

I looked around. “So that’s done. Anything else and all hell will break loose. I hope you don’t mind it. If you want, Tyler, I will pay your guys more for the work here.”

“Don’t worry about it,” Tyler said. “We all take care of each other in this family and in this town.”

“It was a lot of money,” I said. I looked at Mila. “A lot of money, darling. But I couldn’t do it. This is our house, Mila. Our son is going to walk on this porch one day. You’re going to get nervous and make me rig up some kind of baby gate at the top of the steps. We’re going to have breakfasts in the kitchen. We’re going to sit in the sunroom and watch storms roll through. I’m going to build the biggest snowman ever in our front yard in the winter. This is home, darling. I’ve never had a home until I met you.”

“Oh, damn, he’s so romantic,” Zeke said. “If I had ovaries, they’d be hurting.”

“Shut up, Zeke,” Theresa whispered with a growl.

“Silas…,” Mila said as her eyes glossed over.

“Come here,” I said.

I pulled Mila toward me and then I picked her up.

She let out a cry and Theresa let out a gasp.

I looked at Theresa. “You’re either calling me weak or your daughter fat.”

“Hush,” Theresa said with a grin.

I walked Mila to the front door of the house.

“It’s not all done yet,” I said. “But it feels right. The baby will be here soon. Your family is behind us. After all the shit today, this is definitely my home. Are you joining me?”

“Of course I am,” Mila said.

I swung my foot, planning on kicking the door open.

The door didn’t just open though.

It fell off the hinges.

It slammed against the floor.

I nodded and proceeded to walk, right over the door.

I looked back at Tyler.

He smiled and nodded.

I wondered how much I had to pay for a new front door now.

Chapter Thirty-Five

MILA

“You know, I think this is a little crazy,” Silas said to me as he stroked my cheek. “A little crazy and a little more dumb. If I’m allowed to say that.”

“You can try and talk your way out of this all you want,” I said. “You’re going to play that show, Silas. You’re going to get up on that stage and play that show. It’s going to be amazing, too. I know it.”

“Why don’t you come with me then?” Silas offered. “Like old times. You and me…”

“Pregnant? In a motel?”

“Oh, darling, one call to Mickey and we’ll be in a fancy hotel.”

“Tempting,” I said. “But this is for you, Silas. I want you to go do this and not worry or think about anything else.”

“That won’t happen, Mila. You messed it all up. In such a good way.”

Silas moved down like he was going to kiss me but he kept going. He crouched down and placed his hands to my stomach.

My very round stomach.

Anytime someone told me that time was flying, I wanted to punch them. I didn’t need any indicator of time. I was living it. I felt it every single day. And if time were to really fly by, then I would have been at my due date, along with Olivia, and we’d be side by side in a hospital room, yelling at each other and at Silas and Tyler.

As far as I was concerned, the thought of another ten weeks - or more - being pregnant made me want to throw up. It made me want to buy all the chocolate I could find, sit in bed and eat it while watching goofy romance movies. One’s where the lead woman wasn’t big and round like me. Where she had bouncing boobs that didn’t require them to be full of milk, in pain and looking weird.

Of course, Silas loved my boobs more than ever.

I gently smacked the side of his head.

“What was that for?” he asked.

“Nothing,” I said.

Silas kissed my stomach. “I love you, son. Don’t bother your mother too much. I don’t want to come back to hear you were not listening. If you put her in a bad mood, she’s going to take it out on me.”

“Are you done now?” I asked Silas.

He stood up. “I love you, Mila. Thank you for this.”

“It’s what we do for each other,” I said. “But when the baby comes, there’s no bailing on me. You can park your ass in your new home studio and record.”

“You and me, darling,” he said. “Your
