Just a Positive Pregnancy Test - London Casey Page 0,26
at me. “I’m not talking to you, son.”
My back stiffened.
“Answer me, Tyler,” Zeke said.
Tyler let out a sigh. “He came here to hire the company.”
“For what?”
“He wanted advice on either building a house on a piece of land or gutting a house and renovating it.”
“Why is he doing that?” Zeke asked.
“He…” Tyler looked at me for a second. “He wants to build Mila her dream house.”
“Do you think that’s a good reason to start throwing punches?”
“It wasn’t just that,” Tyler said.
“Answer me!” Zeke bellowed.
“It’s not a good reason,” Tyler said.
Zeke looked at me. “You want to build a house for my granddaughter? For my great-grandchild?”
“That’s right,” I said. “I want to build her a studio so she can write and play music. Where the both of us can write music. I want her to have everything she’s ever wanted.”
“It looks like you two need to do a little more talking,” Zeke said. “Figure out which plan works best. You think a pregnancy lasts a long time, but it doesn’t. It flies right by. All the weeks, months, holidays… it just… it goes by quick. Don’t miss out on this time. Now smarten the fuck up. Got it?”
Both Tyler and I said, “Yes, sir.”
“I didn’t hear you,” Zeke said.
“Yes, sir!” both Tyler and I yelled.
“Good,” Zeke said.
Zeke turned and walked out of the office.
Tyler and I sat there in silence for a little bit.
“If you want something done for when the baby comes, we can figure out the renovation. Buying land around here is a pain in the ass. And then a new construction on top of it. If the house has good bones, you’re better off that way. Just have to make sure the foundation is solid and the overall structure is good.”
I looked at Tyler and nodded. “Thanks. That’s all I wanted to know.”
I climbed to my feet and left the office.
When I got to my truck, I wiped blood off the corner of my mouth.
Then I smiled.
Typical Justa family greeting, huh?
Chapter Thirteen
MILA
I hated the idea of being mad at Silas since he just got into town. I hated the idea of him sleeping on the couch at the inn. Or the two of us on opposite sides of the bed, me pissed off.
So I decided to do something else.
We slept in bed together.
I slept naked.
And he was cut off from any naughty touching.
It was a beautiful thing too.
I made Silas hold me so I felt safe and comfortable.
Each time his hand even twitched toward my breasts, hips, ass, or elsewhere, he got an elbow to the gut and a reminder that I was annoyed with him.
We eventually fell asleep and the next morning when I looked at him, I was still a little bit annoyed.
Silas had a way of making everything right though. I loved him too much to be mad for long. That was a risky thing for me. Offering him my heart the way I was. So easy for him to break it and hurt me. I just had to trust he never would.
After a small breakfast where I paced myself, waiting to throw up, I felt pretty good.
The coffee stayed down.
A few pieces of fruit stayed down.
The maple brown sugar oatmeal stayed down too.
“Was that a practice breakfast, darling?” Silas asked as he touched my hips and pulled me against him.
“Maybe it was,” I said.
“You didn’t elbow me away that time. Are we good now?”
“Far from it,” I said. “You idiot.”
“It was a discussion, Mila.”
“With your fists.”
“Which is how your family does things.”
I rolled my eyes. “What were you even doing there?”
“I just had to stop by,” he said. “Don’t worry about it.”
“Great. Just what I need to hear.”
I pushed away from Silas and grabbed my stuff and walked toward the door.
Silas followed.
We got out to his truck and he hurried to open the passenger door for me.
I froze in place and titled my head to one side.
“What’s wrong?” he asked.
“Glad I had that practice breakfast,” I said.
“Why?”
I touched my stomach. “It’s about to come back up.”
I was starving an hour later.
Thankfully I was in the right place to be hungry.
I was at the restaurant with Edith and Ma, who were doing anything they could to keep both myself and Olivia eating.
Olivia left to meet Claire to talk about the coffee business.
I offered to help but Ma insisted I park my ass and keep eating.
Silas sat next to me.
I noticed from the corner of my eye that Zeke stared quite intently at Silas.
