It's Complicated - J. S. Cooper Page 0,113

of seeing each other as well.”

“Oh.” My jaw drops. “So it was like a threesome?”

“Well.” He shrugged. “I guess you could call it that, but it was more than that. It wasn’t just a sex thing, you know?”

“No, I don’t really know.” I shook my head. I gazed at him. “What was it like?”

“While I was dating this one girl, Angela, we also met at a gig.” He laughed. “I guess I meet a lot of girls at gigs.”

“I guess you do,” I said, thinking to myself, I would want to be at every gig he attended if we were to ever seriously date.

“So anyway, we met at this gig, we hooked up the same night we met and we went back to her place. Well, the next morning her girlfriend showed up and the three of us kind of hooked up together.”

“Okay, I thought you said it wasn’t a sex thing?”

“Well, it wasn’t really a sex thing, we actually would hang out and do different things together.”

“Okay. So you were in a relationship with both of them?”

“Well, not really a relationship. I mean, we would go to movies, to concerts and then we’d all go back to one of our places and fuck but you know, it was nothing serious.”

“How long did that last?” I asked softly.

“About three months.”

“Oh, so not terribly long?”

“No. Actually, Tina wanted to get serious with me.” He made a face. “And she kind of blew up.”

“What do you mean? She blew up?”

“Well, she kind of wanted to get pregnant by me too and I kind of figured it out.”

“What do you mean?” I froze as I stared at him.

“Well, I always use protection with women, it’s just a smart thing to do.”

“Okay, and?”

“Let’s just say I caught her with a needle and a packet of my condoms.”

“No way.” My jaw dropped. “She was going to make you get her pregnant on purpose without telling you?”

“Yeah, let’s just say after I saw that we never fucked again.”

“Oh wow.” I didn’t know what to say to that. “That’s kind of crazy.”

“Yeah.” He shrugged. “She was a bit crazy, good in the bedroom, but you know, I don’t need crazy like that.”

“Okay, well that’s not what I really expected to hear. Have you had any normal-ish relationships or, you know, normal as in what I would consider normal?”

“Oh, you mean like serious one-on-one girlfriend sort of thing?” he said with a half-smile.

“Yeah, that sort of thing.”

“Let’s think.” He grabbed his cup and drank his soup. “I mean, I’m not really that sort of guy. In college, I dated a girl for about six months. It was cool, but it got boring.”

“Oh, okay. So I guess you just really don’t do relationships?”

“Yeah.” He frowned. “I guess I don’t.” He looked at me for a few seconds and studied my face. I knew he could see that there was hurt there and a little sadness. I tried to disguise it, but I found it very hard. Here I was falling for him and yet I knew there was just no chance for us. No chance whatsoever.

“So what about you? When was your last serious relationship?”

“Oh, it’s been a while,” I said. “My last real serious boyfriend was in college, but that didn’t work out. I’ve dated guys here and there, but you know, a bunch of douchebags in Manhattan I laughed.”

“Yeah, I know, trust me.” He made a face. “But yet you’re looking to marry one of those douchebags.”

“Well, I didn’t say that,” I said. “Yes, I want to get married one day but hopefully it won’t be a douchebag.

“Yeah, I hope so too,” he said with a smile. “So you haven’t had sex in a long time, huh?” He leaned forward and I could see from his eyes what he wanted. The desire was apparent and my body started trembling in anticipation.

“You said we were going to walk around the lake first Connor, remember?”

“Yeah, I know,” he said as he grabbed the tray and took it off of my lap. “But who said we couldn’t have a ten-minute quickie before the walk on the lake?”

“Connor,” I said. “No.” I shook my head and laughed as he reached his hand up under the T-shirt and played with my breasts. “You said we were going to walk and then—”

“Shh,” he said as his lips came down on mine. “We don’t want to talk right now Gemma, we have better things to do.”
