“Will do.” Sarah’s voice lowered. “I have so much to tell you.”
“Oh? What?”
“I can’t say right now,” Sarah said. “But let’s just say both of us have something crazy going on in our lives right now.”
“Oh my God, Sarah. I need to hear more information now.”
“Let’s just say that Harry made me a proposition.”
“What proposition, Sarah? Oh my gosh. Are you crazy? I can’t believe this is the first time I’m hearing about this. What did he say?”
“I can’t say anything, everyone’s around and I don’t want anyone to hear, but I’ll tell you later, okay?”
“Okay, fine. So you’re having a good day?”
“Yeah, it’s great,” Sarah said with a giggle. “So hold up a second, how come you’re telling Connor you’re not seeing him again? And why do you have to tell him in person? You couldn’t tell him over the phone?”
“Girl, last night I was with Lucas and it was absolutely amazing. And I think I’m just stupid if I waste time with Connor knowing that Lucas is a much better guy.”
“Oh, why is he a better guy though?”
“Well, I mean, not necessarily better in personality or better at anything else, but I mean, just in the fact that we want the same things, you know?”
“Oh, I guess. So what happened with Lucas last night? Did he ...” She paused. “Sorry.” Her voice lowered. “I don’t want to say the words too loudly because I don’t want Harry’s family judging me, you know?”
“Hey, no worries.” I laughed. “But no, we didn’t have sex, not yet. But he invited me to a New Year’s Eve party and I said I’m going to go and he said he has a special surprise for me. So I’m pretty sure that it’s going to go down then.”
“Oh wow, girl,” Sarah said. “I’m so excited for you.”
“Yeah, it’s cool. He had this really sweet night planned for me last night. We had a bubble bath in his jacuzzi tub and he gave me a massage and you know, even though we didn’t have sex, we had some fun, if you know what I mean?”
“Oh really?”
“Yeah.” I laughed. “And you know, as I was lying there while drifting off to sleep, I figured it’s just stupid of me to also be dating Connor when I know nothing can come from it, you know?”
“Yeah, that makes sense. You need to do what’s right.”
“And the reason I’m not doing it by text is that I feel bad because I did say I would spend the evening with him. So I figured I’ll go, I’ll tell him right off the bat, ‘Look, this is not going to go anywhere. Maybe we can be friends if you want, but all physical stuff is now off the table.’”
“Are you sure you can do that, girl?”
“Of course Sarah, do you know how many hot guys I’ve had in my life that I have kept my hands off of even though they wanted me?”
“No.” She snorted. “How many?”
“Well, none.” I laughed. “but I know if I did have loads in my life who wanted me, I’d be able to say no.”
“Okay. Oh gosh, Harry’s calling me. Can I call you back later?”
“Sure. You have a great evening and I’ll speak to you tomorrow or something, okay?”
“Okay.”
“And Sarah?”
“Yes, Gemma?”
“Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do.”
“Oh, I wouldn’t.” She laughed and hung up. I sat in the back of the Uber and all I could think about was, what was the proposition Sarah was talking about? Who had propositioned her and for what? And was she drunk? I totally wanted more information. In fact, Sarah’s situation was making me even more excited than my own. I wanted to hear what was going on in her life. Had Harry propositioned her or had it been one of his brothers? He had four equally hunky brothers. And I knew that Sarah needed to date a good guy. And frankly, I was hoping one of the brothers had asked her out, and not Harry. They seemed like they might be better for her.
