It Wasn't Me - Lani Lynn Vale Page 0,25

a cup of coffee, too?” Jonah requested.

After receiving a nod from the waiter, Jonah looked back at me, dismissing him.

I grinned at the waiter who looked a little flushed at Jonah’s undivided attention and winked.

Obviously, the dude was gay, and obviously, he was as affected by Jonah as I was.

Sheesh.

“What’s that look for?” Jonah grumbled.

It was cute how grumpy he was.

“I was commiserating with the waiter,” I answered. “Did you talk to your brother yet?”

He grumbled something under his breath.

“Texted him,” he answered. “Got a call back, so I ignored that and texted him again saying I was going out with you.”

“You told him we were married?” I asked in surprise.

Jonah grinned. “I told him I was going out to eat with my wife, and I’d call him when I was done.”

I shook my head. “What did he say to that?”

“He laughed,” he answered. “Thought I was joking, I’m sure.”

He shrugged. “I guess we need to figure out what we’re going to do,” he admitted. “We have to figure something out, because my brother and sister are too big of a part of my life not to figure it out the instant that we get home.”

I agreed.

“I’ll be able to keep it from my sisters for all of five seconds when I get home,” I murmured. “They’ll see this in a heartbeat.”

I raised up my hand, showing him my tattooed-on ring.

He grinned.

“I don’t see my brother and sister as much as they’d like, but you’re right. They’ll definitely notice.” He placed his hand on the table, too.

I shifted on my butt and winced when I felt the uncomfortable pull on my ass.

Today was going to suck.

There would be a lot of walking. A lot of standing. And a lot of sitting.

“You still want to give it a chance?” I asked quietly.

He leaned back in his seat but left his hand on the table.

“Yeah,” he murmured. “I do.”

No hedging or humming or hawing from Jonah.

Just a straight, no-nonsense answer.

Yeah, he did.

Which was great, because I did, too.

“Okay,” I said. “Then let’s do it.”

“You’ll stay with me?” he pushed.

I nodded. “At your house? Yeah.”

“In the same room?” he asked.

I grinned. “You might regret it, but yes.”

“Why would I regret it?” he questioned.

I raised my brow at him. “You really want me to give all of my secrets away?”

He didn’t waste time by saying, “Yes.”

Rolling my eyes, I tangled my hand with his.

He flipped his over onto the tabletop so that it was easier for me to hold.

I stared at the still steaming pretzel and said, “I sleep odd hours. I wake up randomly in the middle of the night, so instead of trying to go back to sleep, I just read until I’m sleepy again.”

He grinned.

“Sometimes I toss and turn, not realizing it,” I continued. “I do it a lot, too, seeing as when I wake up the sheets are always tangled at the foot of the bed, and I’m normally only left with about a quarter of the blanket that I started out with.”

“I snore,” Jonah supplied. “Just FYI.”

“For your information,” I informed him. “I snort.”

“Snort?” he asked.

“Snort,” I confirmed. “I wake myself up by snorting.”

The corner of his mouth hitched up. “I’ll have to see about listening for that.”

I shrugged. “I…”

The waiter placed Jonah’s coffee down.

“Is there something wrong with the appetizer?” the waiter asked, concerned.

I shook my head. “No. we were just waiting. Thank you, though.”

“Oh, okay.” He smiled and walked away, glancing once over his shoulder for a better look at Jonah.

I scoffed and turned to Jonah once again, reluctantly letting go of his hand.

Reaching for the massive pretzel that was as big as my face, I tore it apart and handed a chunk to my husband.

He took it and dunked it into the cheese dip before shoving half of the bite in his face.

Grinning, I took my own dainty bite and moaned.

“Oh, this is good,” I said before taking another bite.

“Yeah,” Jonah confirmed. “It is.”

“I don’t like to share my food.”

He froze with the pretzel halfway to his mouth, unsure how to proceed.

“I really don’t,” I admitted.

He handed the pretzel back.

“No,” I shook my head. “It’s fine. For this anyway. But, just an FYI, or a warning, don’t steal shit off my plate. It makes me a little pissy.”

He popped the cheese covered pretzel into his mouth.

I watched the muscles in his jaw and throat work as he chewed and wondered why I found him chewing so freakin’ sexy.

I also wondered how the hell I was going
