her life.

“I can help, guys,” Rachel says. She’s been listening in on the plan and has kept quiet until now.

“There’s an elevator that can take me down to the lower floor. I watched Mike place the cell keys in the exact same spot for two weeks straight

. I can get the kids in this part of the building out while you work on the rest.”

“Absolutely fucking not,” I growl. “You stay right where you are until I come and get you.”

Slim looks at me with wide eyes.

“Idiot,” he mouths silently.

“I’ll have you know that I am not a freaking child, Sam,” Rachel seethes.

“She’s about to blow,” Slim laughs.

“I don’t need your permission to do a damn thing,” Rachel continues, her voice rising. “I’m going down to the lower level and I am going to release those kids and there isn’t a damn thing you can do to stop me.”

“Miss Rachel,” Wolf speaks up. “You really need to lower your voice before someone hears. Yell at Ink softly, please.”

A few seconds pause and Rachel starts giggling.

“Sorry guys,” she whispers. “But I am doing it, Sammy.”

“It’s not that I think you’re incapable, baby,” I tell her. “If you release those kids too early then they could get hurt or used as hostages. Or even yourself.”

“I have a plan,” she admits. “There’s only one key to those cells. Mike misplaced it once and he and Carlos had an all-out war about his incompetence. So, Mike always places the key in the same spot every single time he locks a cell door.”

“What’s your plan?” Brick’s voice echoes through my earpiece.

“If I can get down a few minutes before you burst in, I can unlock the cell door and enter into the cage with the kids. And the key.”

I have to admit it’s not a bad plan. She would be safer inside a locked room than one where anyone can enter.

“They could still shoot you,” Trigger reminds us.

“Maybe,” Rachel admits. “But it would be better than being used as a sex slave for the rest of our lives.”

“If everything goes as planned, then what she’s suggesting would be the best choice,” I tell the group. “The second we make our move Carlos will know who it is. The first thing he’s going to do is go straight to Rachel and use her as leverage to get away.”

“Just let me know a few minutes before,” Rachel says. “That’s all I need.”

“What about your back?” Bear asks. “Will you be able to handle moving yourself around fast enough to get the job done quickly?”

“Don’t you worry about me,” Rachel assures us. “You just worry about getting your asses in here fast enough. And don’t get yourselves killed.”

Yes, ma'am, sounds out and we sit back and wait for the chance to strike.

Chapter Twenty-Nine

Rachel

What in the world has my life become?

As strange as it sounds, I’m pumped up on adrenaline and all fear has washed from my body. I think it’s because I know Sammy is nearby. The moment I heard his voice for the first time in two weeks, I felt immensely stronger.

A knock on my door startles me and I hear the voices through the earpiece telling each other to hush.

“Yes?” I answer.

A woman opens the door and walks in holding a tray.

“I thought I was the only adult female here,” I admit.

The woman chuckles.

“Most days, you are,” she says. “I only come when the cleaning services come. Can’t let them wander around on their own. I’m Carlos` sister, Elizabeth.”

I take the tray she offers and sit it beside me on the bed.

“Do you have any idea that kind of horrible things they do here?” I ask her, trying to keep the contempt out of my voice.

“Easy, baby,” Sammy says in my ear.

“I am aware,” she admits, lowering her voice. “I’ve tried helping others out of here before and it landed me with a broken arm and a dead son. If you were in my shoes, what would you do?”

“I’m sorry about your son,” I say, surprised that she’s even attempted to help someone. “But think about all the other families, the mothers, who lose their children to people like your brother.”

“I don’t have a choice,” she seethes. “He’s already taken my only child away and all I have left is my own life.”

“We always have a choice,” I tell her. “It’s not always the easiest choice, and sometimes it may not always be the best one, but there is always a choice. And honestly, I would
