something else and took it out on me a bit, and hey, I should have told him about my meeting with Lisa earlier anyway. That’s a real mistake that I made, and he has the right to be a little annoyed with me.”

“Woah, woah,” Natalie said, “calm down there. You have a billionaire adonis who owes you an apology. You are going to throw that away and go right over there and be rational with him like that? That’s not what I was talking about when I said I was reviewing your options.”

“You think he’s an adonis?” I grinned at her.

“Oh, come on. You know he looks good. He’s not my type, but damn he looks good.”

I laughed. “So my options?”

“You want to set him straight. Teach him that he can’t treat you like this, even when you fucked up. If you want to be with him, then that’s real. So even if you two are mad at each other, you shouldn’t blow up on each other, right?”

“I guess.”

“Right, I’m right, as always. So, you want to decide how long you’re going to make him wait. That’s the only decision to make. Do you accept his first apology, or do you make him really get on his knees?”

“I think that’s a bit overkill.”

“You want him on his knees, Lace.”

The thought of him on his knees did sound appealing, though I was not going to take it to such an extreme as Natalie probably wanted me to. I would take her advice though to not immediately rush over there and be the one to apologize. Noah had been a huge dick to me, and I could let him spend at least some time regretting that.

“Don’t apologize to her,” Silas said, putting his feet up on his desk.

Of course he’d say that. Why did I decide to talk to him again? I already regretted telling him what had happened.

“Does that work, in your experience?” I asked. “Just...being a dick? Never apologizing. Thinking you’re always in the right?”

A big smirk filled his face, which told me that all that had worked for him. The problem was—and I don’t think Silas realized this himself—was that he had never actually been with a woman for more than a few months. In his head, he probably thought that he was just doing that intentionally. That if he really had wanted to, he could keep a relationship going longer than that.

“Look, Noah, I know you think I’m a manwhore—”

“You are.”

“Okay, so I know that you know I’m a manwhore. We both know that’s what I am, but who understands women better than a manwhore?”

“I think you understand one part of women well enough, but I’m doubting how well you understand the whole package.”

“You think I only understand the pussy? Noah, I am also intimately familiar with the tits. The ass. The toes.”

I started to walk out of his office, but he laughed and slapped his hand on the desk.

“I’m joking, Noah, come on. At least hear me out. I will in no way be offended if you completely ignore all of my advice.”

“I’m not in the mood for joking around right now, Silas. Stop beating around the bush and give me your bad advice.”

“So you want to go apologize to her straight away, right?”

“I’m thinking of going there in person now. She can’t avoid my calls if I’m right there.”

He shrugged. “Sounds a bit desperate.”

“I am a bit desperate.”

“Noah, this is the first real fight the two of you have had. This is going to set the tone for the long haul. Now, I realize I’ve never done ‘the long haul’ myself, but I have a very vivid imagination, and I can mentally project a relationship forward several years, kind of like a highly detailed simulation—like the Matrix—and—”

“Silas!”

He put up a hand. “It’s true. The way the first fight is resolved is going to set a precedent. Think about how we got Chance Charter to sign on with us. We gave in to him a little bit too much, flattered him a little too hard, and years later we have to go suck him off every time he has a new book ready. If we had just been a little more firm with him from the start, the whole dynamic would be different all these years later.”

I sat back down in my chair and leaned backward. “Or, being a little bit more firm may have scared him off entirely. He’d have signed with Red Sun, and we’d
