Naomi wasn’t exactly screaming. Not yet at least, but she was giving me a lot of “No! Daddy!” and “But I wanna go!” She was just too damn excited to be able to slow down.
“Naomi,” Lacey said, bending down to meet her at eye level. “Remember the Impatient Little Gobblegurt?”
Naomi stopped fighting me and nodded to Lacey. “You think I should be a little bit patience and not push and shove?”
“That’s right,” Lacey said. “Then you’ll be ready faster, and you’ll get to slide even sooner.”
From then on, she actually just sat still and let me put the sunblock on her. I looked at Lacey and shot her a look of impressed amazement. I had been just about ready to just pin my kid down and forcibly slather her up in sunblock whether or not she was kicking and screaming.
Once we got her ready, I took off my shirt and threw it down onto the chaise lounge we’d staked claim to with all of our stuff.
Lacey looked at me, and I licked my lips and raised an eyebrow at her. She spun around and didn’t meet my eyes again, but it was my eyes on her now.
I watched as she unbuttoned her jeans. They were so tight that it was almost like she was peeling them off her body. I watched her ass and thighs as she slid out of the jeans, and then as she took off the Gucci t-shirt.
Her breasts were barely contained by that damn bathing suit, and I caught a few other men’s heads suddenly turning toward her. The instinct to grab hold of her and claim her publicly as mine was intense, but I resisted, because Naomi was watching.
“Can we go now!” Naomi shouted. “I was so patience!”
“Patient,” I said. “And yes, you were, let’s go.”
Naomi started to run. “Walk!” I shouted.
She started penguin walking as fast as she possibly could. Lacey and I really had to book it to keep up with her.
There was a bit of a line, but it wasn’t too bad. All the rich fucks on this cruise had much more stimulating things to do than slide down water slides, and most of the people in line were moms or dads like me who were taking their kids on the slides.
Well, I looked around more closely, and I realized that it was mostly a bunch of babysitters or nannies. I even saw the babysitter we’d hired last night with some other kid. She waved to us.
“Hi, Lynn,” Naomi said. “This is my real nanny. Miss Lacey Larsen.”
Lynn smiled at us, and we waved back, but soon Janine and the kid she was with were reaching the slide and getting ready to go down.
I held the raft for us.
“Do I wanna be in the front, the middle, or the back?” Naomi asked. “The front is gonna go fastest, the middle is gonna be safest, and the back is gonna be scariest.”
I laughed. I loved hearing the kind of shit kids came up with. There was rarely any consistent logic that lined up with the reality of situations, but in their own little minds, everything they said was true, based on their current understanding of the world.
“So which is it?” Lacey asked. “Maybe you should go in the middle?”
“I’m not afraid,” Naomi said. “I’m gonna go in the front. Can you make sure I’m safe though, Daddy?”
“Of course, sweetheart. You’re always safe with me.”
When we reached the top of the slide, a lifeguard looked us over. I could tell he was about to tell us that Naomi might be too short, but I shot him my scariest “fierce dad” look, and he immediately backed the fuck off.
The slide had a large area to load the raft into and get everyone situated. The lifeguard and I held the raft steady as Lacey helped Naomi into the first spot. She was wearing her water wings, so it was a bit tricky to fit her in there. Once Naomi was in, I got in behind her. It’s not that I didn’t trust Lacey, but I wanted to be there in case Naomi needed help. I could reach out and grab her if needed from this spot. Lacey got in behind me, and I saw her calves and feet on either side of me. Naomi was looking forward, so I grabbed hold of Lacey’s ankle and ran my hand up her calf.
