How to Have Your Boss's Secret Baby - London Casey Page 0,67

fuck. I got pregnant. Here I am.”

“What?” Jen asked.

“Say that again,” Connie said.

“Cole… my asshole boss? I went on a business trip with him. To this cabin on a mountain. He’s been trying to close this big deal with the company. We got drunk and we went after each other. It had been building for a long time. He fucked me in front of the fireplace in the cabin. And I got pregnant.”

“Your boss,” Jen said.

“In front of a fireplace?” Connie asked.

“That’s the part you pick up on?” I asked.

“What?” Connie asked. “I’ve been pregnant before. I’ve never had sex in front of a fireplace though.”

“Maya, you got pregnant by your boss?” Jen asked.

I touched my stomach. “Correct.”

“You can take the girl out of this town,” Connie said, “but you can’t take the town out of this girl. Welcome home, Maya.”

They both started to laugh.

But I didn’t think it was funny at all.

I wasn’t supposed to end up like them.

Pregnant. Alone. No direction.

Too late.

I forced myself to smile through the conversation with Connie and Jen.

They thought I was the coolest.

To them, at least I got pregnant by a guy with money.

Meaning even if Cole and I never ended up together, I would always get something from him.

That was the goal in this town.

To find money.

Everyone dreamed of meeting a doctor or lawyer. Or they half joked about finding an old man with money to mooch off of.

It was a way of life.

I got to see Ben and Brooke for a little bit.

Their youth and innocence kept me a little sane.

Brooke loved kissing my belly. She wanted to know everything about the baby as though I knew what the sex was and what he or she looked like.

Ben just wanted to play video games.

Connie got mad and I told her it was fine.

It took all of two hours before I had enough and needed to leave.

I lied to Connie and Jen and told them I was meeting my mother.

Well, it was kind of a lie.

My mother didn’t know I was coming to town.

I was just going to show up at the front door, baby bump and all.

But I wasn’t running back home. I wasn’t moving back home.

I hadn’t failed…

Connie and Jen took their turns rubbing my belly and kissing it.

They were so excited for me.

I went out to the car that had been sitting there the entire time.

Again, Connie and Jen loved that part too.

They envisioned me as some rich girl.

I was far from it.

In fact, when I got into the car and shut the door, my eyes filled with tears.

Everything I had left this town to become, never happened.

And now this town was creeping up on me.

I rattled off my mother’s address and the driver drove.

I felt sick to my stomach.

My only desire was Cole.

I wanted to hear his voice. See his face.

I wanted him to hug me.

My heart ached and raced at the same time.

I just wanted to go home.

This town wasn’t home.

The city was big and had a lot of space. I could stretch out and think.

Here in this town, it was like a prison.

The car turned down Maple Avenue.

My mother’s street.

I had no idea what to expect.

I took a deep breath and shut my eyes.

It was my life, my body, and I would make everything work.

As I slowly exhaled, I opened my eyes.

Then I blinked. Fast. Hard.

I leaned forward and looked out the windshield.

“Is that…” I asked the driver, even though he wouldn’t be able to answer me.

But it was.

Cole was standing outside my mother’s house waiting for me.

Chapter Thirty

Cole

I have to see her.

That was my only thought.

The thought that hit me, haunted me, and the thought that made me want to prove myself to her.

So, I came to Maya’s hometown and waited for her.

When I saw her get out of her car, she was surprised. And pregnant.

I couldn’t help myself. Each time I saw her I had to mentally point out her pregnancy. There was something about it. Because it was my baby. It was our baby. It was our moment come to life. Even though we didn’t plan for it, that didn’t matter now.

We were going to have a piece of forever together whether we liked it or not.

“Cole?” Maya called out as she walked toward me.

I moved down the crooked and cracked sidewalk of her mother’s house and around the bent, rusted chain link fence.

“I had to see you, love,” I said.

“Why?”

I smiled. “I need someone to get me coffee.”

“What?” Maya asked.

Her face turned
