How to Have Your Boss's Secret Baby - London Casey Page 0,102
here to meet Cole and get all horny for him.
Too late.
I climbed out of the car and put my hands to my stomach and gently waddled my way toward the porch.
Cole didn’t move an inch until I got to the top of the steps.
“You look beautiful, Maya,” he said. He put his hand out toward my stomach. “May I?”
“It’s your baby,” I said.
Cole’s hand touched my stomach.
My emotions exploded.
I wanted to cry because of what could have been.
At the same time, I started to get wet.
Yeah, that’s right… one touch from Cole and I was ready to put out a Caution - Wet Floor sign between my legs.
Cole smiled, then he grabbed my hand. “I want to show you something.”
He pointed to the main front door.
“That door,” he said. “That’s not yours. You don’t want that one, Maya. Although, Miss Hester is a bit of a sweetheart. She’s a widow and loves to talk.”
“Why would I go in there?” I asked.
“This is your door,” Cole said as he pointed to the side door down the end of the porch.
“What?”
“Come on,” he said.
He opened the door and we went into the house.
“Cole…?”
“This was once a giant house,” he said. “Then it was split into three. Then into two. It’s got a crazy history. But it’s all updated. Foyer, living room, dining room, a formal dining room… look at the kitchen, Maya…”
Cole dragged me into a bright kitchen that made me gasp.
There were so many windows and it was so clean and bright and… and the view… it looked right over at the mountain.
My mind suddenly pictured what the trees would look like covered in snow. Or in the fall changing colors. Or…
“Wait,” I said. “What is this?”
Cole ignored me again. “You have two sets of steps. The main steps going to a landing where the bedrooms are. There’s three total, plus a full bath. These steps here go up into the office. Which is next to the baby’s room.”
“Baby’s room?” I asked.
Cole was on the move again.
Next thing I knew I was going up a set of stairs.
Cole turned on the light and there was a desk with notebooks and pens. There was a daybed near a large window.
“Perfect for writing,” Cole said.
He wasn’t done yet.
He pulled me from that room into the hallway to the next bedroom.
When he opened that door, he side stepped and put his hand to my back and guided me in.
“And this is for the baby,” he said.
I stepped into the bedroom and covered my mouth.
It was another nursery. Except it was Cole’s version. Everything brand new, matching, and top of the line.
The crib, the rocking chair, and the changing table were the ones I had picked out. The same with the lamp. The decorations. The curtains. The blankets…
I looked at Cole. “What is this?”
Cole smiled. “This is your new place, Maya.”
I walked to the changing table.
There were onesies stacked up, along with burping blankets, and even a stack of the smallest diapers I’d ever seen.
My eyes filled with tears as I walked around the room looking at everything.
Cole moved everything from the apartment he had me in to this place.
But this place was…
Inside the crib there were little elephants and tigers and bears.
And an envelope.
“Is that the sex of the baby?” I asked.
“No,” Cole said. “That’s yours.”
“What is it?”
“Open it, Maya,” Cole said.
I grabbed the envelope and tore it open.
There was a piece of paper with a number on it.
I turned around and looked at Cole.
“I don’t want it,” he said. “That’s my payment to go away. I’m the one getting paid to go away now, Maya. It’s not a good feeling. I should have never made you feel that way.”
“What…”
“It’s over, love,” he said. “I’m done with the company. The deal with Mr. Pickle is gone. I finally got to knock him on his ass. It felt great to do. That money is what they’re giving me. I’m giving it to you. Not to pay you off. Not to make you disappear. But to make sure you’re taken care of. You and the baby. This is your home now. This is your town. It all works out now, love. You can have the baby, have a place, have an office for writing. The walls are thick so you won’t bother Miss Hester. And I’m sure she’ll be making food for you. It’s perfect. Right?”
