can still feel a tingling sensation on my skin where he touched me with the oil. Where did he learn how to do that? Did Kaya give him a lesson first before he embarked on this ruse?
“Why are you here?” I finally ask, after several moments of silence.
He comes towards me, and then I watch as he lowers himself to his knees beside me.
“I’m here to win you back, Kim. I have been miserable without you. I don’t know how you feel about me. I don’t want Blaire to speak for you. I want to know how you truly feel. If we have a future together. When you left, I was lost. Angry. Sad. I didn’t know how to even begin to get you back.”
He reaches for my hand, and I let him have it. He’s so close to me now I can touch him. Smell him. Feel him.
I can’t believe this is happening. Is it possible that Kirk really does want me?
We are staring into each other’s eyes, and I take in a deep breath.
“I’m pregnant, Kirk. It’s your baby. I’m sorry I didn’t tell you sooner,” I say, and to my surprise, he reaches for me and pulls me into his arms.
The sheet falls away from me. I can’t hold it together. I’m naked and slick with oil, but he doesn’t seem to notice. He pulls me down in his lap, and I cling to him with my arms around his neck. His mouth is in my hair.
“And you have no idea how happy that makes me,” he says.
“Really? You’re happy?” I ask as he kisses my lips. He has a finger hooked under my chin, tipping my face up so he can look at me clearly.
Kirk’s eyes are twinkling with excitement.
“Are you kidding me? I get to be a father! You are going to be the mother of my child. What more could I want? I didn’t know I wanted this until I found out about the pregnancy, but now, this is the only thing that fills my mind, Kim.”
I don’t know how to control the giddiness in my veins, the twisting of my stomach. I feel a rush of love and relief flooding me and I lean into him again so he can kiss me.
“You’re right, you shouldn’t have kept this from me. Not after you know everything I’ve been through. How I lost my father and never knew him. I would never want my child to grow up without a father too.”
I nod my head furiously. Tears are filling my eyes.
“I’m sorry, Kirk. I know it was wrong. I was just being so defensive, feeling sorry for myself. I thought you didn’t want me, and I couldn’t imagine you would want my baby either,” I say.
He lifts my hand up to his lips and leaves fluttering kisses all over my fingers.
“Our baby. Not one day will go by while I am alive that I won’t want you. You are mine, Kim. I’m in love with you,” he says. I want to squeal with joy. Jump up and down and clap my hands like a kid.
“I’m in love with you…” the words slip out. They’ve been there on my lips, hanging heavily off my tongue since the first few days of meeting him. Kirk is the man of my dreams. The one I have always envisioned building a life with.
“Then nothing else has to tear us apart ever again. I want you to stop doubting us,” he says.
I kiss the side of his neck, loving the texture of his stubble on my lips. I know every inch of this body already, and I will never stop wanting it.
“By the way, your ex, Chase, showed up at my office a few days ago.”
I pull away from him with a jerk.
“Chase? Oh, my God! What did he say?”
“That you went running into his arms. That he wants me to stay away from you. That you’re in love with him.”
Kirk is speaking with a soft smile grazing his lips, but his eyes are firm and dark. I can’t tell how seriously he’s taken these allegations. My nostrils flare. I stick my chin up in the air defensively.
“Chase is lying. I don’t know how I can prove it to you, but I will. We broke up many months ago and I feel nothing for him. I have never slept with him. I have never slept with anyone…” While I speak, Kirk lifts a finger up and presses it to my
