loud as you like. Besides, you’re the one who’s officially staying here. You can be seen coming and going all you want.”

“Is anyone going to ask you why you rented a private bungalow at this resort?” she asked.

“No,” Curt said. “They’re not going to dig into my personal finances. And if they do ask, I’ll just tell them I wanted a place with a pool to get away to. It’s no one’s business.”

“I don’t want to put you in breach of contract,” Annalise said.

“You let me worry about the contract,” Curt said. “You’re on vacation. You’ve already jumped through enough hoops, flying all the way here, having James meet you at the airport and bring you back on your own.”

“That wasn’t so bad,” Annalise said. “James was really nice. I’ve never had anyone pick me up at an airport.”

“You have no idea how much I wanted to be the one to come and get you,” Curt said. “I’ve been daydreaming about seeing you again ever since I bought the ticket.”

He stepped down the stairs into the water and reached up for Annalise’s hand, encouraging her to follow.

She took his hand and let him pull her in, let herself float in his arms, her body and his weightless and aligned.

“I’ve been dreaming about it too,” she said. “I’ve been counting down the hours.”

His hands moved over her skin, finding all the most sensitive places that they had learned together, and Annalise knew that Curt was showing her what he had dreamed of when he’d thought about her. What he had imagined.

He turned her in his arms so that her back was against his chest. She leaned her head back on his shoulder and let his fingers work their magic, driving her to new heights of desire.

Chapter 10

The days that followed were a whirlwind.

Curt was required to be on set every day for several hours. He woke her with kisses in the mornings—he was staying in her bungalow with her, a fact he assured her no one involved with the production of his movie was going to notice or mind. As the morning sun came in through the window, the two of them made love, slowly and deeply, relishing every moment.

Afterward, following a shared shower and a quick breakfast delivered by the resort’s room service, Curt would dress and make his way to the set. Annalise would put on the complimentary resort bathrobe, take the remains of the breakfast cart out onto her private deck, and eat waffles and bacon with her feet in the pool, sipping her coffee and allowing her mind to wander, remembering the way Curt’s hands on her body had made her feel.

She hadn’t confided in Janette about the fact that she and Curt were sleeping together. She had always assumed that, if she ever did try something like this, she wouldn’t be able to resist calling Janette right away.

But now that it was happening, she found herself wanting to keep quiet about it. It was almost as if having the secret made it more special. Just as she was enjoying sneaking around the restrictions in Curt’s life, she found that she liked keeping her new love life a secret from her sister.

I just hope Janette understands when I eventually do tell her.

After finishing her breakfast, Annalise left the resort for walks on the beach itself. The sand was white and soft and the water was crystalline blue, more beautiful than anything she’d ever seen in her life. She would take a towel and spend hours lying on the beach, listening to the heavy sound of waves crashing on the shore and imagining that she could spend the rest of her life here.

Still, she was unprepared, on her last night, when Curt asked her to extend her stay.

“What?” she asked, turning toward him.

She had been opening the deck door to let the warm night air and the sound of the ocean in, but his question so surprised her that she forgot what she had intended.

“We could change your airline ticket,” Curt said. “That would be easy enough to do. And then you could stay longer.”

“Where is this coming from?” Annalise asked, her heart fluttering. “We had a plan, I thought.”

Not that any of my plans have held up at all since I met Curt. Every plan I’ve ever had for my life seems to have fallen by the wayside. And by and large, that’s been a good thing. So I don’t know why I’m so worried about sticking
