His Other Half (Patches Tarkio MC, #3) - Debra Kayn Page 0,36

her again.

He flipped his hair back. Maybe he was wrong, and the men weren't here for Josie. But he couldn't take the chance of something happening to her.

He reached behind her and pushed the door fully open, stepping inside. She scurried to get out of his way and crossed her arms.

"You can't come in," she blurted.

Once the door shut, he hooked her neck, dragging her forward. Embracing her to his chest, he held her until her struggles calmed.

"What are you doing?" A deep sigh went through her, and she leaned more of her weight against him.

"There was a group of men down the street." He cupped the back of her head. "Blackfoot."

She pulled back and frowned. "How do you know they were Blackfoot?"

"License plate." He smoothed her hair off her face. "There were five of them."

"Was it Ask..." She shook her head. "Robert Shaw?"

"I only got a glimpse of them as I passed. I couldn't tell who they were or if I'd seen them before." He took in her sweatpants and oversized shirt. "Grab whatever you need. You can stay at my house tonight."

She backed away from him. "I'm not leaving Cami here alone."

"Isn't Chrischris coming over?"

"I don't think so. Not tonight."

He walked over to the window, pulled the curtain to the side, and looked out. No traffic drove past the apartment.

If she needed help, he lived far enough away that if she called, he might not make it to her fast enough. Shaw could get her in the car and be headed back to the reservation before he arrived.

No, she had to come home with him. He was the only one who could guarantee she'd remain safe.

He thought he had more time before he had to deal with Shaw. With the casino covering the recent murder, he believed Shaw would be tied up in red tape and taking a break to cover his ass.

He'd been wrong.

There were men outside waiting for their opportunity to get to Josie, maybe even Cami. To stop them, he'd need to kill the leader. Priest had already taken out one of them. Paco removed another one. The asshole who believed he owned Nicole would be next.

Tarkio hadn't cut the head off the snake.

The organization behind sex trafficking women was bigger than any of them had believed. Probably reaching outside the reservation. As soon as they took down one of them, they brought in three men to take over.

The danger was too big for Josie to handle on her own. She probably wasn't even aware of the business beyond her father had paid his debt by handing over his daughter. A lot of good that had done to save him. The son of a bitch should've been tortured before Shaw ended her dad's life for what he'd done to his daughter.

"Cami can come over, too. I've got a couple extra bedrooms." He walked to the door. "Be ready in five minutes."

"Paco."

He walked out of her apartment. The door opened behind him, and Josie grabbed the sleeve of his shirt.

"You're going to freak Cami out." She pulled him back. "Just...come in and talk to me. Tell me what's really going on."

He went back inside. "What's really going on is bigger than you. It's bigger than me. You're not safe here. There are men outside who are here to bring you back to the casino. They rather see you dead than off the reservation."

She frowned. "Who told you that?"

He gritted his teeth. If he said anymore, she'd know he'd read her journal. He wanted to save her from the shame of going through her past again with him.

But, she needed to know to stay safe. She could keep the security of writing in a journal and have an outlet for her problems. Tarkio knew enough on their own that he could help her.

"Tarkio knows what happens at the casino. Probably more than what you know or others suspect." He caressed her cheek, wanting to take away her worry. "I need to go after Shaw. It's the only way we can stop him from coming after you."

Her spine stiffened, and she narrowed her gaze. He wouldn't let Shaw get away with what he'd done, only to come back and get Josie.

"I was never going to let him get away with what he'd done to you and Cami, but the shit that went down hasn't delayed their activities the way I'd hoped. He still wants you. I can guarantee that's what the men were doing here," he said.

"Maybe he's
