enthusiastic over a bunch of old things that I couldn’t care less about. But another part of me wants to say ‘Fuck the museum’ and take you back to our chalet and fuck the heck out of you.”
Derek raised his eyes to Sam’s. “You know how that lady knew we were here and you asked how she knew? There’s a good chance she’s telepathic and she’s reading your mind right now.”
All the blood drained from Sam’s face. “Dammit.” He blinked and Derek sensed he was trying to control his thoughts. From twenty-four long years of being unable to control his thoughts and remain visible, Derek knew it was a losing battle. “Fine. Let’s go to this restaurant then. But just so you know? If she’s reading my thoughts right now, I’m never going to be able to meet her in person because those things I want to do to you on that bed are private. And goddamn sexy.”
They both laughed. Then holding hands they went back to the car.

Chapter Fifteen
SAM WAS EXTREMELY STRICT WITH Derek before they started making love.
“If there’s anything—anything at all—that you’re worried about or don’t want to do or aren’t comfortable doing yet or just that it’s too much for you tonight, please tell me. We don’t have to do everything. We don’t even need to do anything. Just lying on that bed and holding you all night is more to me than risking scaring you or hurting you. I would rather have sixty years of cuddling you tightly than one night of love, but scaring you so bad you never want anything more to do with me.”
“I’m sure it will be fine,” Derek vowed.
“I’m sure it will be, too, but still, I want you to know, the word ‘no’ can be used any moment. You can just say ‘no’ and I’ll stop. If you’re not comfortable doing something, let me know.”
Derek moved into Sam’s wide embrace, cuddling up to his side and slipping his arms around him. Sam had showered while Derek ordered a light meal to eat in their room. They were both still full from the excellent pizza Fiergo’s had served them. The servings had been huge, and they’d devoured the leftover pieces during the afternoon’s hike they’d taken in the castle’s forests. Derek had loved every moment of the afternoon, from the pizza to the wonders of the Fleurbourg museum in which he’d pored over the items, reading the information placards with excitement.
Then Derek had gone to shower while Sam waited for the food to be delivered to their door. He’d come back out to find that darkness had fallen and Sam had moved the small table from the sitting area of the room until it sat half-in, half-out of the balcony doors—enough to make it seem like they were sitting on the balcony without activating Derek’s fear of heights.
And candles. Somehow Sam had found candles and lit them, placing them in the center of the table. All the lights in the room were off, so it was only the soft glow of the candlelight that illuminated his strong protector and hero, standing next to the table with a grin on his face.
“Dinner is served,” he intoned with a sweep of his hand.
Joy suffused Derek’s whole body and he slowly made his way over. “Oh, Sam.” Then they had sat and enjoyed their meal, though afterward Derek couldn’t remember what he ate. There was wine from the best vineyard in North Abarra and they drank deeply, barely taking their eyes off each other. Sam’s eyes sparked with a mixture of desire and contentment.
“Romantic enough for you?” he asked Derek softly.
“Too much,” Derek answered. “I don’t think I ever want to leave.”
“Leave Fleurbourg or leave me?”
He shook his head at Sam’s stupidity. “You’re never going to get rid of me. Don’t even think that I’m considering leaving you. And if you do try to leave, remember I have perfect stalking ability.”
That made Sam laugh. “Oh, baby. I love that you think you could sneak anywhere, even invisible. But you don’t have to worry about me leaving you. What you have to worry about is kicking me out of your place occasionally to give you space. Nothing will separate us.”
It seemed almost magical about how their minds were in sync, and as if they had one mind, they rose simultaneously and reached for each other. Their kiss was not chaste. It wasn’t relaxed or unhurried. It was full of fire and passion and love
