Hello My Angel - Sue Brown Page 0,11
I don’t trust Mullins to even give the order. You all need to go back to the agency.”
“Dave and me have been talking….” Rick glanced at Dave who nodded. “We want to work for you. For Angel Enterprises. We’ve done more with you and Josh in the last year than we did with the agency. Besides, the agency is finished. Anyone can see that.”
Josh wasn’t surprised by Rick’s announcement, but he was interested to hear what Cal would say. He was also amused by the expression on Cal’s face, a mixture of flattered, conflicted and frightened.
“I don’t know that it’s a good idea, boys. You’re giving up a steady job to work for me? We’re busy now but what happens when we’re reduced to stalking cheating husbands?”
“We bring back Weatherly alive and we’ll never get a cheating husband case,” Josh assured him.
Cal turned to him, a look of surprise on his face. “You think it’s a good idea?”
Josh shrugged. “Yeah, I do. We go back to the agency and we’re gonna be hampered by Mullins at every turn. Now we can look for Weatherly with the gloves off and CDR’s help. You can’t tell me you haven’t already contacted Dominic.”
In theory, Cal had relinquished ties with his former company and become the ‘silent’ majority shareholder. Josh knew his lover better than that. He also knew money wasn’t an issue. Cal had his share of CDR, and he’d inherit Sir Gideon’s estate. For once, Cal was in a position to do exactly what he wanted.
“We?” Cal raised an eyebrow.
“I might just have told Mullins where to shove his job before I left. Well, sent him an email with a big ‘I QUIT’!” Josh grinned as Cal rolled his eyes. “The agency was never really for me. You know that. And you need someone with my organizational skills.”
“You do have those,” Cal agreed.
“And we left our resignations with HR,” Dave said.
“But your wives—” Cal’s voice was faint as if he was about to pass out.
Rick beamed at Cal. “Agree with us. Especially if we never have to wear these gray suits again.”
“Amen,” Dave agreed.
“Hallelujah.” Josh fist-pumped the air, ignoring Max’s WTF expression.
Rick rolled his eyes and continued. “Even if this only lasts six months I’ve got good skills and I can find a job elsewhere. Me and Dave were talking about leaving before you arrived. Now stop freaking out and tell us what to do next.”
“I’m on loan from CDR,” Gil rumbled. “I’m not making any decisions yet. I did have Jesse’s job offer but CDR needed me in Iran. Let’s quit jabbering, find Weatherly and neutralize Moles.”
Cal nodded. “That’s fair enough. Jesse’s going to do his nut when he finds out I’ve stolen his team.”
“Let me be the one to tell him. Please, please.” Josh almost bounced in his seat.
“Oh, no. No way. Dominic can do that. You stay out of it, Angel.”
Josh pouted but Cal ignored him.
“What about me?” Max said from the corner of the booth. “I still work for the agency.”
They all turned to him as if they’d forgotten he was there.
Cal smiled at him. “Thanks for bringing this information to us. We’ll take it from here.”
“If Max goes back and one of Chyna’s minions finds out Max was the one who handed us her identity, he’s in trouble,” Josh said.
“What are you suggesting?” Cal raised an eyebrow. “He comes and works for us too?”
Max looked frightened. “Do you think that will happen?”
Cal furrowed his brow. “Max, can you go sick for a couple of weeks? I’ll cover any pay. We’ll need a good tech person. Once we’ve recovered Weatherly and dealt with Chyna you can return to your job.”
“If he works for us, they’ll know he’s involved,” Gil pointed out.
Cal shot him a vicious grin. “Hopefully it’ll be all over by then and in the meantime, it’ll be your job to protect him.”
Josh looked down at the table, hiding his smirk. He wasn’t sure who looked more terrified, Gil or Max.
“Now that’s sorted, we need somewhere to work,” Dave said.
“I’ve got an office.”
Josh blinked at Cal’s announcement. “You have?”
“At one point I was going to start a CDR office in London. I bought the building, but then it didn’t happen so I rented out the offices. One company has just moved out and the first floor is empty. I was going to rent it out again if it was just me, but we’ll all need office space. Let’s use that. It’s near Barton and Wharlow’s old office.”
