hands of the same creature that lay waste to what was our entire world.”
“But I still don't understand why?” I admitted knowing that with the Devil, there was always a hidden motive.
“Why not, it is after all named Hell for a reason and he is the Devil. A deal was made with him and we ended up there after our revenge was complete. The irony was always to be that our punishment for our sins of revenge were that the very creatures we'd loathed, the creatures we wanted revenge on, that the King of all of them would be the one to own our souls. He would be our eternal Warden for an eternity in the prison of Hell. That was what our revenge cost us, and that is what the King is still to give back to us.”
“Oh Gods… okay, so yeah, I kind of see why you hate him now.” At this he laughed before downing the rest of his wine and refilling his glass. So I told him, after reaching out and taking his hand again,
“I promise you, Vern, I promise you and your brothers that I will do everything in my power to try and get your souls back and hey, if he says no, then I just won't have sex with him until he does.” At this, Vern burst out laughing before choking on his wine as I leaned over and whispered,
“And he really likes sex.” Then I winked at him and drank my own wine. But there was one last question in my mind, for I knew that the Devil was in the details.
“So, all three of you sold your souls to the Devil and for that, he turned you into shifters… I wonder why shifters?” I said almost musing to myself before Vern dropped the biggest bombshell on me yet.
“Ah, but I am afraid that’s where you’re wrong, sweetheart.”
“What do you mean?”
“It wasn’t all three of us that sold our souls.” I frowned at this and shook my head a little, before asking in an almost fearful tone,
“Then who was it?”
“It was just one of us that made the deal with the Devil…” He paused as if pained. As if he didn’t want to say it but felt too compelled to. Like fate was forcing the next three words out of his mouth, and with them condemning his brother…
“…It was Trice.”

Little Miss Piss Potting
After the meal, and the bombshell from Vern I now had my head spinning over, we found ourselves with full bellies and ready to sleep for a week. Or at least I was. A meal, which I had to say included a lot of salad and therefore I was not surprised that everyone I'd seen so far were tall and slim. This was because there had not been one single ounce of fat on the table and in all honesty, I was really starting to miss cheese.
Vern had laughed at me of course when I had said this, as he just admitted to being glad that there was meat on the table, as I think he’d had some misconception that all Fae were going to turn out to be vegans. Now, I didn't have a problem with vegans, or vegetarians for that matter, as most of the time I wish that I had the willpower to join them. But, unfortunately, I was a meat girl through and through, and as for cheese… well, everyone who knew me, knew what I felt about cheese. In fact, I think even Lucius had commented once about how there had been more cheese on my chilli than actual chilli. I had just given him a look and said, ‘and?’ to which he had burst out laughing.
But then this had me thinking back to that day and how perfect it had been. Well, that had been until I had ended up being chased by Hellhounds and tackled to the ground by the witch in the freezing snow. Then yeah, minus that part and it would have been the perfect date.
But speaking of dates, it had been at this point that this one with Vern was ending, as the King had come back to retrieve us, ready to escort us to our rooms.
“I will be right next door if you need me… for anything?” Vern said this as a question, and managed to shake me out of my melancholy thoughts and away from times that painfully seemed like an age ago. Gods, but I missed him.
