Heart Of Darkness (Transfusion Saga #10) - Stephanie Hudson Page 0,47

did the same and I raised a brow in question at Balin, knowing now that he had lied. But then he too had obviously been following his King’s orders to find us, which was why I wasn’t surprised when he shrugged his shoulders at me and winked. This told me that he knew exactly where my thoughts had been in that moment.

In fact, I was just about to follow suit, minus the cool looking robe flicking, which I had to say on him looked kick ass. But before I could lower my ass to the seat, this was when Trice stood at the edge of the seating area and purposely folded his arms, declaring like some spoiled child,

“I wull remain standing, thanks.” I rolled my eyes at him and said,

“Well, suit yourself, but my legs are killing me.” Then I sat down and watched as both his brothers squeezed past Trice and did the same as I did, taking a seat opposite the Fae. Trice shot them a look that said it all, making Gryph be the first to respond,

“What? A'm wi' th' lass oan that one,” he said rubbing at his thick, trunk like thighs, before swinging his weapon from his back and dropped it down with a clunk as the heavy weight of his war hammer hit the floor. It made a vase wobble nearby and we all watched it, me with a wince as I was expecting it to topple over and smash. Thankfully, we all let out a sigh of relief when it didn’t, making Gryph whistle before adding,

“Och, sorry bout that, bit ye ken whit thay say, luck o' th' Scottish.”

‘Luck of the Scottish?’ I mouthed at Vern, as I was pretty sure the saying referred to the Irish. Vern smirked back at me before he shook his head a little, telling me his brother had got it wrong. I tried not to laugh, hiding my own smile behind my hand before coughing in it and making Vern do the same. Gods, but we were like naughty children in a schoolroom trying to hide our giggles from our teacher.

Thankfully, instead of getting insulted the King just held up a hand and shrugged it off, telling Gryph with that gesture not to worry about the vase. And, well, I had to say that so far it looked to be going pretty good. Well, that was if Trice would give up the I want to rip your throat out stance and join us by sitting down. Something that after a couple of nods of my head when gaining his attention, he thankfully got the hint, but not before he rolled his eyes and huffed like a sulky teenager. Then he finally took a seat to my left. This meant that I was sat in the centre chair facing the fireplace directly, with the brothers on one side of me and the King and his captain on the other.

“Right, well, let's start with the obvious should we, your err… Majesty?” I said in an uncertain way making him grant me a soft look of amusement.

“My name is King Auberon, and you know my second in command, Balin, my Captain of the Guards.”

“Oh right, yes introductions are probably a good place to start, I am Amelia as you know but these are…”

“Getting pissed aff wi' all this shit, that’s whit we are!” Trice snapped, making me shout his name,

“Trice!” This was when he turned in his seat to face me and pointed out,

“May I remind ye, Princess, that we are oan a mission 'ere, one tae save a life, or did ye forget that 'n' wish tae continue wi' th' pleasantries after he had his hand aroond yer throat only a moment ago!” He said this last part directing his furious eyes towards the King, and my response to this was to release a sigh before I too turned my attention to King, now telling him,

“What he says is true, we are under a time constraint here… even if he was a little bit blunt at reminding me!” I snapped this last part at Trice, giving him my best pissed off look, one he just sneered at in response.

“Then let's proceed shall we and I will begin by telling you exactly what I want and how we may help each other in this negotiation,” the King advised after first giving his own pissed off look towards Trice, and I got the impression it was because of how he had
