Heart Of Darkness (Transfusion Saga #10) - Stephanie Hudson Page 0,37

powder’ would last.

Which meant that I really hoped that I got back to Lucius before blindness struck this already clumsy human, as I couldn't imagine the King at my back classing me as magnificent then, not when I was falling at his feet. And yeah, it was true that the guy was handsome, but he was nowhere near as handsome as Lucius… not in my mind anyway, there was only one man who had that power to have me falling at his feet.

But this thought just had me wondering what Lucius would think on hearing about my current escapades. I remembered back in his Lamborghini when telling him how I had jumped out of a helicopter and I had to wonder which one would win on the fury scale… me riding on the back of a dragon with the King at my back who had his arms around me, holding me flush to his chest like he would never let me go, or shooting another pilot?

I had a feeling that because this time included another male, this one would win hands down. Because if Lucius had been tempted to lock me up before or have me shackled to him, then after this particular moment in time, I just knew that temptation would soon become an absolute certainty in his future and mine!

In fact, as I tried to imagine what Lucius was going through in this moment, I'll be honest, the thought had tears in my eyes. Ever since I had stepped through that damn portal in the Tree of Souls I had caused him nothing but heartache and worry.

Every single decision I had made just felt like the wrong one, one that I continued to make over and over again. And yet, all I could hope for as the sight of the King’s castle came into view, was that getting on the back of this dragon with another King wasn't yet another…

Terrible mistake.

Deals with Handsome Devils

I couldn't help but shriek out in fright the moment we started to descend to the ground in a great arched sweeping motion that tilted us both to one side. The King had been ready for this and braced himself, for he had been the one commanding the dragon’s descent. I, however, had not, which meant the moment I started to shift in the saddle was when his arm strengthened around me, tugging me back once more into his close embrace.

“Easy now, Princess, for I will not have you falling and breaking this pretty little neck on my watch... not when I have plans for you,” he said, making me want to question what he meant by that and what those plans of his were exactly. However, this was hardly the time as I feared for my life and had no choice but to cling on to the strong arm that was banded across my stomach, anchoring me to him.

Thankfully, it was shortly after this that we lowered enough to land, doing so in what looked like a private, rooftop garden that was situated near the very top of the castle. I was surprised that the sight of the mighty beast landing didn't have the people scurrying away like frightened bystanders, but then again, what was I saying, as one look at the land and all the dragons that resided here, I could imagine that seeing any dragon was as common as seeing a cat in someone’s garden back in the human realm.

And back to the dragon in question, as soon as it was down it lowered itself as far to the ground as possible, meaning this must have been a natural reaction for when his master needed to get off its back. After this the King loosened his hold on me and I could finally breathe freely, taking in a shuddered breath as quite honestly, it didn't feel right for me to be in another man’s arms.

The King, unbeknownst to my inner turmoil, then swung his leg over the dragon’s back and let his body slide a little way down the dragon’s wing before jumping off and landing nimbly on his feet. Then with a flick of his hand casting his flowing robes out of the way, he turned back towards me and said,

“Your turn.” When I didn't respond quickly enough for him, he tried to hide a knowing grin, obviously amused at the sight of me rooted to the saddle and not in any hurry to leave it. Not considering my only option
