Heart Of Darkness (Transfusion Saga #10) - Stephanie Hudson Page 0,33

wanted to be in the air catching the wind.

Now, as for its rider, the King was most definitely no less of an impressive a sight as he too was enough to take your breath away. I couldn’t tell how tall he was, not while sat on top of his pale beast, but from what I could tell, he was certainly a striking figure to behold, with his square shoulders and hint of impressive biceps that were slightly strained against the material covering his arms. Long, straight chestnut brown hair, wasn’t even windblown, and for a girl, trust me, I was questioning this for good reason.

A mischievous grin played at kissable lips on his handsome face, yet I could see that just as easily those easy features could turn into the hard eyes of someone serious, thanks to the deep slant to his eyebrows. This combined with the strong line of his nose, the high slope of the cheekbones and fuller bottom lip, screamed nobility and power, as he held himself well. But these were just some of the minor details I could make out from down here, like what he wore, was also easy to see.

It was a grey blue tunic that clung to his muscular torso and down his strong thighs, thanks to a split up the centre that allowed for ease of movement. He also wore a plated silver chest plate, where it was plain to see that its design had been made with his dragon in mind as it resembled the scales of his pet. This matched the ice blue material beneath his silver shoulder pieces that were attached to long, mediaeval style sleeves that brushed the top of his knuckles. The hint of dark grey leather trousers could be seen tucked into high boots, that also appeared to be made of silver metal plating.

But his breastplate was what interested me as it was inlaid with the glowing blue Insignia of his Royal house, the same that was shown on his army’s armour. To complete this impressive look of a King, was the white sword he wore attached to the thick belt that hung low on his hips. It was one that looked as if it had been made from quartz, resembling a shard of ice topped with a handle that looked to have been carved from a white horn. In fact, I had only ever seen one like it before and that belonged to Trice.

As for his crown, this too was a combination of interlocking plates to resemble scales, and at the front it held a single tear shaped blue crystal that had the same glow as the Royal Crest on his chest and that of the eyes of his dragon.

“I must say, I enjoyed the show immensely,” the King said with a distinct royal lilt to his tone. I made a strange, nervous laughing sound when I looked around and realised that we were the only ones still standing. This was because the rest of his army, along with his captain, had lowered to one knee to show him their respect. However, this didn’t seem to faze him as he seemed more amused by the sight of us, than anything else. Or should I say… the sight of me. This was because he hadn’t once taken his eyes off me, much to Trice’s growing annoyance.

“I take it these are the ones my brother also seeks?” This question was aimed at his captain, who also took this as his cue to stand.

“Yes, my King, we found them near the borderlands. It must have been the closest portal to the Kingdom of Souls, for we found the raiders surrounding them.” The King nodded, now looking lost in thought before asking,

“My brother’s raiders, I presume?”

“They were men from the Astyllen mountains, yes, my King.” I easily followed this conversation between them and had to force myself not to ask the long list of questions that were mounting up by the second.

“Then lucky for you that you now find yourselves here and not there, for your welcome would have been quite different,” the King informed us, and I had to hold back from asking whether his brother also had a dragon or not, as it wasn't exactly the cute doggie welcome you usually received from a pet.

Speaking of which, the dragon was really getting restless now as he padded his claws on the ground scratching up great chunks from grass.

“Ease yourself, Othello,” the King said, making me want to
