Healing Carson's Little - Izaia Winter Page 0,35

erred on the side of caution for my impromptu houseguests.

Walking back into the bathroom, I opened my medicine cabinet and grabbed a bottle of painkillers. Shaking out a few, I returned to the living room, placed two pills on each side of the coffee table for Lee and Law, and added two glasses of water for the dumb pair and another one for Miller. Realizing Law and Lee would need blankets as well, I grabbed a few from my spare closet and placed them where Kyle would find them. Standing in the living room, I spent a few minutes watching Miller sleep in a completely-innocent-and-not-creepy-at-all kind of way.

Shaking my head at my own foolishness, I left him alone and crawled into bed. Looking at the empty side next to me, I couldn’t help picturing Miller there. Pushing him out of my thoughts, I closed my eyes and tried to fall asleep. I was having a hard time of it, listening for the sounds of Kyle as he offloaded Lee and Law in my living room.

I was restless, falling in and out of sleep until I heard the front door opening and noisy footsteps. Reaching over, I grabbed my phone and checked the time.

2 A.M.

Closing time.

With a sigh, I rolled out of bed and walked down the hall to find Kane taking off Lee’s shoes as he rolled over and passed out. Kyle was just setting Law down. He started making noise as Kane reached for his shoes, but a quick hand slapped over his mouth shut him right up. I walked up behind the couch Miller occupied and looked down, please to see he was still asleep.

I nodded a thanks to Kane and Kyle as they left the apartment, closing the door silently behind them. Exasperated at the two drunk men, I rolled my eyes and shook my head as I returned to bed, eager to make Miller breakfast in the morning. Drifting off, I wondered what his opinion was on breakfast tacos.

Miller

I smell bacon.

Wondering which one of my neighbors was cooking breakfast, I snuggled deeper into my pillow and tried to fall back asleep. I wasn’t ready to face the day yet, and more sleep was definitely the answer. Rubbing my cheek against the pillow, I frowned. It was soft, way softer than I remembered.

As the feeling something wasn’t quite right washed over me, I shifted on the bed and froze when my foot hit the back of a couch, a couch I most certainly did not own. Opening my eyes, I stared at the back of the unfamiliar gray sofa. Looking around without moving, I saw the soft, knit blanket fisted in my hands and the white, fuzzy pillow beneath my head.

Noticing a fuzzy leg sticking out from my pillow, I turned my head and looked down. Snowball, Carson’s teddy bear, was smiling up at me. Relieved to know where I was, I released a sigh as I dropped back down.

Of course, I still smelled bacon.

From the direction of the kitchen, I heard the distinct sizzle and pop of grease as bacon fried in a pan. Placing my hand on the back of the couch, I lifted my head and peeked over.

Carson was in the kitchen making breakfast. His hair wasn’t in his usual artful tousle but a sleep-mused mess. He wore a pair of cotton, flannel pajama pants, and a plain white t-shirt that stretched across his chest. He looked casual and sexy, like one of those models in the Christmas ads, you know, the ones I most certainly did not drool over.

He turned in my direction as he placed a dirty plate into the sink. I dropped back down and hid behind the sofa cushions, my hand covering my mouth as a giggle threatened to escape.

Hearing a loud snore from behind me, I rolled over and smirked at Lee sprawled over Carson’s loveseat. His body was too long to fit comfortably, but that didn’t seem to matter. He was on his stomach, one leg propped awkwardly up on the armrest and the second resting on the floor. His hands were curled up under his chest and a red blanket covered only a portion of his body.

Spying a glass of water next to him on the coffee table, I looked closer and noticed a whole setup. Next to his water glass was two pills—most likely pain relievers for his hangover—and an identical setup on the other side. Glancing at the other loveseat, I saw someone else
