Hawk & the Lady - Elizabeth Stevens Page 0,64
for the world, Aubrey.”
“Unfortunately,” Nico added under his breath.
“Not a society man, I hear, Nico?” Aubrey chuckled.
“Nico’s not a humanity man,” Rollie answered for him and Nico glared.
“Well, I suppose that makes it nicer that you can anyway.” Aubrey nodded.
“We could have just done a barbeque in Mr Grace’s backyard and been done with it,” Nico muttered into his beer bottle.
“According to Leah, Priscilla would have had a fit,” I said.
Aubrey was looking thoughtful. “It doesn’t sound a bad idea, though. Certainly, more comfortable than these stuff suits, eh?”
Nico nodded. “He gets it.”
“Well, why don’t we?” Aubrey asked.
“Why don’t we what?”
Aubrey waved his hand. “Have a barbeque.”
“In my parents’ backyard?” I asked him.
He nodded. “Sounds delightful. Give us all a chance to get to know each other a little less formally, don’t you think?”
I thought about it.
My mum would be over the moon at the idea. She’d been tickled pink by the whole getting dolled up and going out to Ayers House for the night, but she loved nothing better than hosting a bid feed in the backyard for all the people she loved.
Priscilla, though? Oh, I would pay money to see that.
“You know what, Aubrey?” I asked him. “Why not? Let’s do it.”
Aubrey clapped me on the back. “Good man.”
I grinned as I took a sip of my beer and caught Leah’s eye across the room. She smiled at me and gave a small wave that I returned.
I couldn’t wait to get her alone later for a number of reasons, but chief among them was to tell her that her dad wanted to have a BBQ in my parents’ backyard.
Talk about a culture clash.
O Lord & the Queen
See what all your favourite characters are up to down the track and maybe meet some new ones in Nico’s story.
Raegan
Nico and I are all sorts of wrong for each other. Sure, the guy makes me scream his name in absolute ecstasy. But the rest of the time I want to smash my keyboard over his cocky head. And that’s really not conducive to a healthy relationship.
If only the man who was a beast in the sheets was a nerd on the streets. If only we had something in common. I need a little nerd in my man and Nico Daniels is anything but nerd. Isn’t he?
Nico
Every time I think I’ve worked out how to open up to her, all my walls slam back into place. My nerd side has never been what’s got ladies into bed – I’ve picked up a thing or two from my team mates. But that’s the side this nerd queen would love, if only I’d let her know it.
She’s the code that could crack all my firewalls, but I’m not sure I know how to be the real me and be a guy someone could love. To keep her, I’m gonna need to let my nerd light shine bright.

Thank you so much for reading this story! Word of mouth is super valuable to authors. So, if you have a few moments to rate/review Leah and Patrick’s story – or, even just pass it on to a friend – I would be really appreciative.
Have you looked for my books in store, or at your local or school library and can’t find them? Just let your friendly staff member or librarian know that they can order copies directly from LightningSource/Ingram.

Thanks
A huge thank you to my beta readers for dealing with all the changes in schedule and wayward panicking. Things got a little all over the place with this one and I’m so grateful that you’re all so accommodating.
Thank you, too, to the readers who gave my adult romance adventure such a wonderful start. It means the world that you’ve taken so much to the Grace Grayson boys.
A definite lack of thanks goes to the cat for insisting on sitting on my arms between me and the keyboard. It wasn’t like I needed those to get things finished or anything.
Without my husband, none of this would even be possible. So, as always, thank you for sticking by me, not complaining about the weird hours I keep, and for keeping the household running as I stare at blank pages for hours on end.
And finally, untold thanks go to the good old shit+F7 thesaurus. Never have I so recurrently employed one as I did to spin this tale. That will teach me to write one character who uses a wider vocabulary than me, and one who uses a simpler one than me. Or, will it?
My Books
I’m working on my adult list, but you can find out about what I have planned at my website, as well as have a look at my older YA books;

About the Author
Writer. Reader. Perpetual student. Nerd.
Born in New Zealand to a Brit and an Australian, I am a writer with a passion for all things storytelling. I love reading, writing, TV and movies, gaming, and spending time with family and friends. I am an avid fan of British comedy, superheroes, and SuperWhoLock. I have too many favourite books, but I fell in love with reading after Isobelle Carmody’s Obernewtyn. I am obsessed with all things mythological – my current focus being old-style Irish faeries. I live in Adelaide (South Australia) with my long-suffering husband, delirious dog, mad cat, two chickens, and a lazy turtle.
