you. You beat him. You were able to continue and enjoy it.”

“Because I was looking at you. I knew it wasn’t him. It was you.”

“Well, from this moment on, you always look into my eyes, and I will look into yours and you will know you are home.”

“Agreed.”

“Are you really okay?” he asked after a few minutes of holding each other.

“Yes. I am. I really am.” I turned to face him and started kissing him again. I felt him get hard against my leg. I straddled him and took him inside of me again. When I finished my descent, he groaned with pure joy and so did I.

This time Jason didn’t even enter my thoughts.

Chapter 18 – Roman

I woke up the next morning and Beth was sleeping on my chest like she used to do before Jason. That bastard. I wished I could kill him all over again.

We’d made love a total of three times last night and Beth seemed to feel better each time. I let her lead. I was so proud of her. I just wished my head would have thought before my dick. The position that we had been in, we had used that position so many times. She loved me holding her hands down, but that was before. Why didn’t I think before I acted? I’d seen Jason on her that way, tied down so she couldn’t move. I was so proud of the way she recovered. I thought we would have to stop, but she was strong. She stirred beside me.

“Good morning,” she said, aiming her morning breath away from me.

I laughed. “Good morning, Mrs. Reed,” I said, doing the same courtesy. “Stay here.”

I ran into the kitchen and got us a bottle of Coke and a few chocolate chip cookies. Beth always said after Coke and cookies morning breath was gone. I wanted to test that theory. I hurried back into the room and crawled into bed.

“You remembered.” She laughed.

I took a big drink of Coke and ate a cookie. I handed her the Coke and her own cookie. She did the same.

“Do you smell the morning breath?”

She moved close to me as I spoke. “Nope, do you smell mine?” she asked, and I really couldn’t smell it.

“Now kiss me!” she said and I did. She looked curiously at me. “Anything?”

“Cookies…that’s all, well, a little Coke.” I put the Coke on the nightstand. I hated to ask but I needed to. “How are you this morning?”

She looked up at me, knowing what I was talking about. She didn’t want to address it either. “Good. I think I’m good. We can go over it in therapy, but for right now, as long as I am on top, I think I’ll be okay.”

I leaned in to kiss her. “Beth, I love you and I think you are so strong. I am so proud of you, but I don’t want you to do something because you think I need it. I can wait.”

“Roman, I promise you, I am fine. Like I said, as long as I am on top and I am looking at your face, I’m fine. Maybe there are some other ways, but until therapy, I think me being on the bottom is out.”

“Agreed, I never want to see that look on your face again.” I grabbed her to me and hugged her, and we snuggled down in the bed.

We talked for a long time. We talked about Joey, therapy, Phantom, and about having a baby. It was wonderful, just talking with her. I missed this part about her most. Waking up with Beth and just being with her. I never really realized how lonely I was until I had someone and then have that someone ripped away from me.

The doorbell rang.

“I forgot I invited Berg to come over for breakfast before he headed back to LA today,” she told me.

“So you like Berg?”

“No, I love Berg! He’s your best friend and super sweet.”

She ran to the closet and put on a Phantom T-shirt and sweats. I had to admit I loved seeing her wear my band’s shirt.

“I’ll go let him in while you go wash up.” She smiled and ran out the bedroom door while putting up her long hair in a clip.

I guessed the only time I would see her hair down was in the bed. In a weird way, that made me feel special. Like it was just for me. I smiled.

Then I got out of bed and showered.
